The All-Star Game is trending in the wrong direction. Guys want to be in spots that are enjoyable to be in. They want to be in nice cities or warm cities. It's a long season. The game itself is a small portion of that weekend. You want to be able to enjoy it a bit. When everyone else is going on trips and enjoying themselves during the break, you don't want to be stuck in Edmonton when it's minus-30 or in Detroit. You want to be able to enjoy it.
Yep. Players comfort first, screw the fans.
It's already pretty clear what the league brass think of the fans. See also, "Ads, digital."
The RAT!
Murray confirms it, but it was easy if you follow this particular person's twitter exploits. It was damn funny, too! lol
Yeah, this is the first time I've gotten one of these right

The All-Star game has lost luster as it has in other sports, the NFL has become a flag game. I don’t blame the players. The season is a grind of constant packing, and living out of, suitcases and changing time zones, not to mention getting body hits, bruises, and longer term injuries.
Sure they get paid handsomely for it, and no doubt most enjoy the chance for no pressure camaraderie with other players they are friends with or hope to become friends with.
But the fans in every city deserve to host and see the event(s) and players. It’s not any different than another quick road trip and I believe that most players still consider it an honor, aware of how brief their career is.
Detroit did host the Super Bowl once, yes in January. Not exactly the boondoggle or warm vacation most consider that week to be.
Also, for all the talk about the great Detroit comeback, unless you want to gamble or get hit by a car while riding a scooter through the frozen February hellscape, there isn't a whole lot of attraction for a mid-20's millionaire that's watching all of his teammates fly off to sandy beaches.
Sadly, I will agree that the Gary.ASSG should be in warmer climes. Cold snowy weather for the Gary.ASSG is a whole other level of stress unnecessary for weary players.
But Detroit gets the shaft when it comes to the other NHL attractions such as the Draft and the General Managers' meetings.
Please, for the love of Gord, don't let Gary or his minions, out of desperation, try to make the ASG "mean something". Even the we-don't-care-if-we-ruin-our-sport MLB backed off from that idiocy.
If weather is such an issue, how about moving the event to the beginning of the season, a kind of kick-off event? This also keeps it a nice "distance" away from outdoor showcase events. It might conflict a bit with the Euro events but those are mostly geared towards fans in the Euro market.
They could even consider going back to the All Star vs Cup champion format.
You mean the beginning of their season that starts about a month into college and NFL football season and in the middle of MLB playoffs? That would be an outstanding idea if they want to see if they could pull off the lowest rated all-star weekend in the history of nhl all-star weekends.
