The Leafs dodged a major injury to dependable forward Daniel Winnik. Just over five minutes into the game, and a couple of minutes after he opened the scoring, Winnik collided with Capitals forward Justin Williams deep in the Leafs end. Winnik fell awkwardly to the ice and did not put any weight on his left leg as he was helped off. His night was done, and the Leafs later confirmed a lower-body injury.

But Babcock was able to exhale.

“It does not seem like it was near as serious as they originally thought,” Babcock said.

The coach then indicated that it’s possible Winnik will play in Dallas on Tuesday.
