The massive talent displayed in the National Hockey league (NHL) over the years has been nothing but astounding. Nevertheless, several players have become household names across North America due to their incredible skills on the ice.

This article pays homage to some of the most lethal ice hockey scorers in history. The names in this all-time goal-scoring list are etched into the NHL history for scoring the most goals in their careers.

Wayne Gretzky “The Great One”

Hockey fans and players idolize Gretzky. Most people speak fondly of this man, which is no surprise because he is the top hockey scorer of all time. During a career spanning over 20 NHL seasons, Wayne Gretzky scored an impressive 894 goals.

Having come so close to scoring a 900th goal makes him the holder of a record that’s proven unbreakable. Gretzky was known for scoring spectacular goals during big games, bringing entire crowds to their feet.

He was an intelligent scorer who knew how to beat the goalie. He’s often described as a player who could score with his mind. This gift gave him 61 NHL records, 2,857 points, and 894 goals by the time he retired after the 1998-99 season.

Gordie Howe “Mister Hockey”

Before Wayne Gretzky came into play, Howe sat on the throne of the NHL, being the leader in goals and points. Howe scored 801 goals during his distinguished and unforgettable hockey-playing career.

He got into the NHL during the 1946-47 season. He played his last game in April 1980, where he scored and had an assist that gave him a total of 801 lifetime goals and 1850 points.

Off the field, Howe was a wonderful person who was universally loved by fans and everyone who met him. On the field, he was an equally fantastic player. The executives, coaches, and players all adored him. It is often mentioned that Howe’s smile and passion for ice hockey were contagious.

Howe was known for his tenacity, physic, and unique playing style. Most people believed that the records that this hockey superstar held were unbreakable. His feats were innumerable, and it wasn’t until Wayne Gretzky joined the NHL that his records were broken.

Gordie Howie passed on in June 2016.

Alex Ovechkin

Third on the list is the six-foot-three, 238-pound Washington Capitals left wing. This Russian tank has been making ripples by threatening to smash Gretzky’s record. He has already broken the record for most goals scored on the road. Whenever he plays, it is smart to place a prop NHL bet on him to score the goal. He almost always does!

Alex has such a nose for the net. He shoots the puck precisely and seems to know where he needs to be to score. Additionally, he doesn’t need much space or time to score when the chance appears.

Ove’s strength, curve, and insane skills on the ice have earned him 793 goals so far. This places him on track to overtake Howe over the next few weeks. Furthermore, all eyes are on him to see if he can beat Gretzky to become the greatest NHL scorer of all time.

37-year-old Ovechkin is hungry to score. He says that even though his shots come naturally to him, he is always trying to outdo himself by scoring one-of-a-kind goals. He further states, “It’d be cool to defeat ‘The Great One.”

Jaromir Jagr

Born in Kladno, Czechoslovakia, this talented right-winger is credited with being the most productive European to ever play in the National football league. His quickness of hands helped him score 766 goals during his tenure in the NHL.

Jaromir is a decorated hockey player with a great skill set and impressive playing history. At 15, he was already competing professionally for HC Kladno in Czechoslovakia. At 17, he had already become a Czech hockey national team member.

Jagr played for nine NHL teams over 22 seasons scoring 766 goals, 10 individual awards, and 1,921 points.

Brett Hull “The Golden Brett”

When he played in the NHL, Brett Andrew Hull might not have been the best skater, but his uncanny accuracy and speed have earned him a spot among the top 5 scorers in NHL history.

Brett’s NHL career saw him play for five teams between 1986 and 2005, during which he scored 741 goals.
