Player Convicted Of Assault And Bullying Signs With The Boston Bruins

11/04/2022 at 3:09pm EDT

from Ryan S. Clark of ESPN,

Mitchell Miller, a prospect whose draft rights were relinquished after it publicly surfaced that he and a classmate were convicted of assaulting and bullying a developmentally disabled classmate, signed an entry-level contract Friday with the Boston Bruins.

The 20-year-old defenseman was a fourth-round selection of the Arizona Coyotes in 2020. Shortly after he was drafted, however, a report by the Arizona Republic detailed how Miller and another middle school classmate were convicted in juvenile court in 2016 of racially abusing and bullying Isaiah Meyer-Crothers, who is Black.

In the report, Meyer-Crothers' mother alleged that Miller started abusing her son in second grade while also using repeated racial epithets.

"When I was in eighth grade, I made an extremely poor decision and acted very immaturely," Miller said in a statement released by the Bruins on Friday. "I bullied one of my classmates. I deeply regret the incident and have apologized to the individual. Since the incident, I have come to better understand the far-reaching consequences of my actions that I failed to recognize and understand nearly seven years ago."

from Lauren Willand of NESN,

Prior to signing Mitchell Miller to an entry-level contract Friday, the Boston Bruins ran it by some of the leaders on the team.

Team president Cam Neely released a statement about the decision to sign Marner, a 20-year-old defenseman who has a controversial past, and general manager Don Sweeney revealed he spoke to players before a decision was made.

Sweeney held a press conference Friday afternoon after the news became official. Due to Millers past, many were wondering what made the Bruins want to sign Miller. Sweeney revealed he spoke to the leadership group of players and made them aware of the plan. Sweeney acknowledged some of those players who were not named asked, Why do this?

Honestly, who wasn't a total asshole in the eighth grade?

godblenderHippyDave

Oh really? So over the course of several years in grade school you punched, kicked and spit on  developmentally disabled black kids? All the while calling them a n****r? Yep. What an asshole.

Steeb

Kids who were convicted of murder at 14 are out of jail by the time they turn 20, and their records are sealed.

Whoever is without stupid shit when they were 14 may cast the first stone.

If it weren't for second chances Brad Marchand would be pumping gas at the local Quickie Mart. Way to go Lil Gary... there is no room for tolerance, forgiveness, and second chance for 8th grader in this NHL.

Let the lawsuits begin.....

Thanks Gary, Ass.....
