Patrick Kane A Trade Call Away From Joining The New York Rangers

02/28/2023 at 3:11pm EST

from Emily Kaplan of ESPN,

The Chicago Blackhawks have agreed to send star winger Patrick Kane to the New York Rangers, sources told ESPN on Tuesday.

In return, the Rangers are sending two draft picks to Chicago -- a 2023 second round pick, which carries conditions to improve to a first-round pick, as well as a 2023 fourth round pick.

The deal is expected to become official after 5 p.m. ET on Tuesday when New York has accrued the appropriate amount of cap space to fit in Kane's contract. Chicago will retain 50% of Kane's $10.5 million contract, and a third team signed on to take on 50% of that, meaning Kane will only count for $2.625 million against the Rangers cap.

The trade call is scheduled for later Tuesday, sources told ESPN.

Wait, what???  I am dying to know who is that third team.

HAHAHA, Chicago had no choice in the matter, but to get bent over and clutch both ankles. The 4th rounder is going to the 3rd team, so they got a condition 1.

Per Capfriendly, the Wild acquired Marcus Johansson from the Caps for a 2024 4th round

I having been calling this trade (Kane's) for days now. NYR were playing with 19 on the active roster for the sole purpose of clearing cap space for Kane's contract.

The conditional first is usually a top 10 protected non-issue for a playoff team. seems the condition is: it's a 2nd round pick that becomes a 1st if the NYR make the conference finals.

SY needs to sell 'lil Bert's contract. The returns are there and the Wings proved they aren't ready for the playoffs with the TB and Ott games.

I'll give you the Ottawa games but if the Wings played every game like the TB game they'd be just fine. The only thing that game proved is that Vishy can still win games on his own.

Kane really tied Chicago hands by only accepting a trade to the Rangers. The rich got richer in the meantime and Rangers have to be the favorites to win the cup now at least on paper. The roster is insane. Kind of reminded me when Hossa went to us just because he wanted to win the cup.
