ELLIOTT POSTS THIRD STRAIGHT SHUTOUT, BLUES CLINCH PLAYOFF BERTH
Brian Elliott (15 SV) recorded his third consecutive shutout to lead the Blues to their ninth victory in their past 11 games and help the team clinch its fifth consecutive playoff berth.

* At 44-22-9 (97 points), the Blues also moved into a tie with the idle Stars (44-22-9, 97 points) – in terms of points – for first place in the Central Division and Western Conference. Dallas, however, holds the ROW tiebreaker (DAL: 42, STL: 39).

* Elliott, who collected his 34th career shutout and fourth of the season, posted three straight blank sheets for the third time in his career (also March 22-27, 2012 and April 7-11, 2013).

* Via Elias, Elliott is the only active goaltender to record three straight shutouts at least three times in his career. Roberto Luongo is the only other active goaltender with at least two such streaks (Nov. 25-29, 2007: 3 SO and Nov. 4-8, 2008: 3 SO).

CAPITALS SET FRANCHISE MARK FOR ROAD WINS, INCH CLOSER TO PRESIDENTS’ TROPHY
Braden Holtby made 22 saves, including 12 in the third period and overtime, and John Carlson scored at 2:17 of the extra frame to lead the Capitals to their fourth win in their past five outings.

* At 53-15-5 (111 points), the Capitals moved within one victory of equaling their single-season franchise record, established in 2009-10 when they won the Presidents’ Trophy (54-15-13, 121 points).

* The Capitals improved to 25-9-3 (53 points) as visitors this season to establish a franchise record for road wins in one campaign, besting the previous mark set in 2009-10 (24-10-7, 55 points).

* Holtby, who recorded his 23rd career shutout (third this season), improved to 45-9-4 in 60 appearances in 2015-16 (2.21 GAA, .922 SV%) to become just the sixth goaltender in NHL history to record 45 wins in a single season:

* The goals by Johnson and Garrison marked the second set of Lightning goals scored less than 30 seconds apart in the contest. Nikita Kucherov (1-1—2) and Vladislav Namestnikov (1-0—1) scored nine seconds apart in the first period to match the fastest two goals in franchise history, achieved twice before: Jan. 9, 2004 at NJD (Dave Andreychuk and Fredrik Modin) and Jan. 14, 2014 at NYR (Victor Hedman and Kucherov).

PLAYOFF POSITIONING FRONT AND CENTER ON 14-GAME SATURDAY
The race to the Stanley Cup Playoffs continues on Saturday with 28 teams in action across a 14-game slate.

* In the Western Conference, every team that currently holds down a playoff position or sits within three points of the final Wild Card spot are in action.

* In the Eastern Conference, every team in a playoff position or within five points of one – save the Devils (36-31-8, 80 points), who sit five points back of the final Wild Card position – will also take to the ice.

* First place in the Atlantic Division is on the line when the Lightning (43-26-5, 91 points) host the Panthers (41-24-9, 91 points). The Lightning currently hold top seed in the division by ROW tiebreaker (TBL: 40, FLA: 34).

* All teams currently battling for Wild Card positions in the Eastern Conference are in action with the Red Wings (37-26-11, 85 points) – who sit outside the final playoff seed – hosting the Metropolitan Division’s third place Penguins (40-25-8, 88 points). The Islanders (39-25-9, 87 points) – who hold the first Wild Card position – visit the Hurricanes while the Flyers (36-24-13, 85 points) – who currently own the final Wild Card position – visit the Coyotes.

* The Avalanche (38-32-4, 80 points) look to move within one point of a playoff spot when they host the team they are chasing for the final Wild Card position in the Western Conference, the Wild (36-28-11, 83 points), who have won four consecutive games.

* The Stars (44-22-9, 97 points) look to hold on to the top record in the Central Division and Western Conference when they travel to San Jose to play the Pacific Division’s third place Sharks (41-27-6, 88 points).

* Chasing the Stars are the Blues (44-22-9, 97 points) – equal in points but trailing because of ROW tiebreaker (DAL: 42, STL: 39) – who visit the NHL-leading Capitals (53-15-5, 111 points) where T.J. Oshie (WSH) and Troy Brouwer (STL) could each face their former team for the first time since being part of the same trade last summer.
