BISHOP, PAQUETTE POWER LIGHTNING TO 2-1 SERIES LEAD
Ben Bishop made 36 saves, including 18 in the first period, and Cedric Paquettescored the tiebreaking goal with 3:11 remaining in regulation to power the Lightning to a 2-1 series lead in the Stanley Cup Final.


* The Lightning improved to a League-leading 8-3 on the road this postseason, outscoring opponents 31-18. They went 18-16-7 as visitors during the regular season and were outscored 122-121.

* The Lightning’s eight road wins are a franchise playoff record, surpassing their 7-3 clip when they won the Stanley Cup in 2003-04. The NHL record for road wins in one postseason is 10, last achieved by the Kings in 2012 (10-1).

* The Lightning have won four straight road games dating to Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Final vs. NYR. They have outscored opponents 13-4 in that span.

* The Lightning extended their road shutout streak to 160:05 before Brad Richardsscored at 14:22 of the first period.

* The Lightning improved to 3-0-1 in their last four visits to United Center dating to April 3, 2011 (regular season and playoffs).

* Bishop improved to 8-3 on the road this postseason (1.50 GAA, .947 SV%, 2 SO). He has not allowed more than two goals in any of his 11 road appearances.

* Paquette scored for the second straight contest, including his first career playoff game-winning goal (3-2—5 in 25 GP). Overall, he has 15-10—25 in 91 career outings (regular season and playoffs) – four of those goals have been decisive markers, including three of 12 during the regular season.

DID YOU KNOW?
Cedric Paquette (at 16:49) scored the second go-ahead goal in the final five minutes of regulation during the Stanley Cup Final. Antoine Vermette (at 15:26) registered the other such goal in Game 1 of the series to lift the Blackhawks to a 2-1 victory.

* Per Elias, only two other series in the Stanley Cup Final – since 1927 – have featured multiple games with tiebreaking goals scored in the final five minutes of regulation: in 1964 between the Maple Leafs and Red Wings (by Toronto’s Bob Pulford in Game 1 and Detroit’s Alex Delvecchio in Game 3) and in 2006 between the Hurricanes and Oilers (by Carolina’s Rod Brind’Amour in Game 1 and Edmonton’s Ryan Smyth in Game 3).

* Overall, 10 games have featured a go-ahead goal in the final five minutes of regulation this postseason, including one other by the Lightning. In Game 3 of the Second Round vs. MTL, Tyler Johnson scored the tiebreaking goal with 1.1 seconds remaining in the third period to power the club to a 2-1 win (and 3-0 series lead).

CLUBS COMBINE FOR TWO GOALS IN 13 SECONDS
Even at 1-1 after 40 minutes, the Blackhawks and Lightning combined for two goals in 13 seconds in the third periodBrandon Saad scored at 4:14 to give Chicago a 2-1 lead, and Ondrej Palat responded 13 seconds later to tie the game.

* The two goals were three seconds shy of the Stanley Cup Final record for the fastest two goals by both teams, set in 1936 and equaled in 1947.

* Last year, the Kings and Rangers combined for two goals in 11 seconds in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final.

Game 3 continued the trend of close games throughout the Stanley Cup Playoffs:

* More than half of the games this postseason (53 of 86, 61.6%) have been tied or within one goal entering the final five minutes of regulation, including the first three games of the Stanley Cup Final.

* All three games in the Stanley Cup Final have been decided one goal. That had not happened in the opening three games since 2010, a series that also featured the Blackhawks (vs. PHI).

Victor Hedman registered two assists to establish a pair of Lightning playoff records for defensemen – in career assists (21) and points (23).

* Hedman ranks second among defensemen in assists and points this postseason, behind Stanley Cup Final opponent Duncan Keith (2-18—20 in 20 GP). Hedman also places second in the NHL with a +12 rating, trailing only Keith (+14).

KEITH CONTINUES STELLAR CAMPAIGN FOR BLACKHAWKS
Blackhawks defenseman Duncan Keith posted one assist and logged 31:37 of ice-time in the loss.

* Keith leads all defensemen with 18 assists and 20 points this postseason (20 GP). Only four defensemen in NHL history have collected more assists in one playoff year:Paul Coffey (25 in 1985 w/ EDM), Al MacInnis (24 in 1989 w/ CGY), Brian Leetch (23 in 1994 w/ NYR) and Bobby Orr (19 in 1972 w/ BOS).

* Keith’s 20 points also are the second-most by any defenseman in the playoffs over the last 20 years. Only Chris Pronger surpassed that total, recording 5-16—21 with the Oilers in 2006 (24 GP).

QUICK HITS
* The Lightning scored the opening goal for the fourth consecutive game (dating to Game 7 of the CF at NYR). They are 11-1 in that scenario during the playoffs; their lone loss was in Game 1 vs. CHI.

* The Lightning improved to 4-0 in the postseason when tied after two periods. The Blackhawks fell to 4-2.

* The Lightning improved to 3-1 in Game 3s this postseason. The Blackhawks fell to 2-2.

* The Lightning’s “Triplets” line of Tyler Johnson, Nikita Kucherov and Ondrej Palatall collected points on Palat’s tying goal in the third period. Johnson (13-10—23), Kucherov (10-12—22) and Palat (8-8—16) have combined for just under half of the team’s goals during the playoffs (31 of 63, 49.2%). Johnson and Kucherov rank first and second, respectively, in playoff scoring.

* Blackhawks forward Marian Hossa notched a pair of assists, raising his career playoff totals to 49-94—143 (191 GP). Hossa jumped to 27th place on the NHL’s all-time playoff assists list, passing Sergei Zubov (93), and moved into a tie with Ron Francis(46-97—143) for 33rd place on the League’s all-time playoff points list.

GAME 3 TREND
The team that has won Game 3 after a split of the opening two contests of the Final has gone on to capture the Stanley Cup 21 of 26 times (80.8%) since the series adopted the best-of-seven format in 1939. Road clubs that have won Game 3 in that scenario are 13-0 in the Stanley Cup Final.

* In the last such instance, in 2013, the Blackhawks lost Game 3 at BOS (2-0 L) before ultimately winning the Stanley Cup in six games.

* In the instance prior to that, in 2004, the Lightning also lost Game 3 at CGY (3-0 L) before ultimately winning the Stanley Cup in seven games.

* The other three instances in which the loser of Game 3 ultimately won the Stanley Cup following a split of the opening two contests of the Final: the 1964 Maple Leafs (in 7 GP vs. DET), the 1989 Flames (in 6 GP vs. MTL) and the 1991 Penguins (in 6 GP vs. MIN).

GAME 2 GENERATES RECORD RATING ON NBC . . .
Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final averaged 6.6 million viewers on NBC, making it the most-watched Game 2 on record (data available since 1994) and the most-watched non-deciding Stanley Cup Final game on record.

Viewership for the game peaked in the final full quarter-hour (9:45 – 10:00 p.m. ET), with more than 7.2 million viewers.

Overall, the game delivered a 3.9 household rating. Locally, Chicago produced a 22.6 rating and Tampa Bay drew a 15.1 rating (the second-highest in the market behind Game 1: 17.9).

. . . GAME 3 ALSO DELIVERS HIGH MARKS ON NBCSN
Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final produced a 2.88 overnight rating on NBCSN, making itthe second-best Stanley Cup Final game ever on the network.

Locally, both Chicago (24.0) and Tampa (13.2) delivered their best-ever ratings on NBCSN for their respective teams.
