IGINLA RETURNS TO BOSTON FOR FIRST TIME
Former Bruin Jarome Iginla faces Boston for the first time since his offseason departure when the Avalanche visit TD Garden in a Columbus Day matinee. Iginla played one season for the Bruins, totaling 30-31—61 in 78 regular-season games as well as 5-2—7 in 12 playoff contests in 2013-14. He and the Avalanche will try to pick up their first win of the season after suffering consecutive shutout defeats against the Wild to open 2014-15. The Bruins also are coming off consecutive losses following a 2-1 victory over the Flyers on opening night. These clubs will face off one more time in 2014-15 (Jan. 21 at COL); the Avalanche have won six straight visits to TD Garden and are 7-0-1 in their last eight trips to Boston. The Bruins last defeated Colorado on home ice on March 30, 1998 (a 4-1 decision).

ATLANTIC DIVISION FOES MEET IN TAMPA
The Canadiens visit the Lightning at Amalie Arena in their first meeting since the opening round of the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs, a four-game series victory by Montreal. Tampa Bay, however, went 3-0-1 during the team’s four-game regular-season series last year (MTL: 1-1-2), which included three contests that went past regulation. The Canadiens are 3-0-0 for the first time since 2005-06 and are looking to open the season with four consecutive victories for the first time since 1977-78 (4-0-0). The Lightning, meanwhile, are 1-0-1 and have earned at least one point in six consecutive regular-season games dating to last year (5-0-1). Tampa Bay has not opened a season with points in three straight games since 2010-11, when they went 3-0-0 in their first three outings.

In celebration of Girls Play Hockey Weekend, U.S. Olympic silver medalist Anne Schleper will participate in the Lightning’s morning skate. Schleper was an All-American at the University of Minnesota, where she helped the team win the NCAA National Championship in 2012. The 24-year-old St. Cloud, Minn., native also has participated in three Women’s World Championships, winning gold in 2011 and silver in 2013, as well as four Four Nations Cups.
