THREE HARD LAPS

* Thatcher Demko established the longest season-opening home point streak in Canucks history and backstopped Vancouver to its ninth straight win at Rogers Arena.

* Patrick Marleau joined Gordie Howe (24), Mark Messier (22) and Alex Delvecchio (22) as the fourth player in NHL history to score 10-plus goals in at least 22 consecutive seasons.

* William Nylander (1-1—2) scored in his fourth straight game and Auston Matthews continued his Maurice ‘Rocket’ Richard Trophy chase as the Maple Leafs have netted at least four goals in each of their last seven road games.

DEMKO, CANUCKS EXTEND RESPECTIVE STREAKS IN ANOTHER HOME WIN
Thatcher Demko turned aside 36 of 37 shots to extend his season-opening home point streak to eight games (7-0-1) and backstopped the Canucks (28-18-4, 60 points) to their ninth straight win at Rogers Arena.

* Vancouver, which matched St. Louis (9-0-0 from Dec. 12, 2019 – Jan. 13, 2020) for the NHL’s longest home win streak of 2019-20, tied the second-longest such run in franchise history and sit two games shy of the team’s all-time record (11-0-0 from Feb. 3 – March 19, 2009).

* Thatcher’s season-opening run established the longest such home point streak in Canucks history, besting Dan Cloutier’s previous mark to start 2003-04 (6-0-1). The San Diego, Calif. native is no stranger to success after he established a Boston College record for shutouts in a single season (10 in 2015-16) and captured the 2016 Mike Richter Award as the NCAA's most outstanding goaltender.

VETERANS MARLEAU, KARLSSON PROPEL SHARKS PAST RIVAL DUCKS
Patrick Marleau scored twice and Erik Karlsson collected his 600th career point on San Jose’s final goal of the contest to help the Sharks (22-25-4, 48 points) halt a three-game slide.

* The 40-year-old forward netted his second multi-goal game of 2019-20 (also Oct. 10 at CHI) to boost his season totals to 10-9—19 and register his 22nd consecutive campaign with 10-plus goals. Marleau joined Gordie Howe (24), Mark Messier (22) and Alex Delvecchio (22) as the fourth player in NHL history to score 10-plus goals in at least 22 consecutive seasons.

* Karlsson, who joined teammate Brent Burns (207-474—681 in 1,094 GP) and Bruins captain Zdeno Chara (205-450—655 in 1,534 GP) as just the third active defenseman to collect 600 career points, became the 11th blueliner in NHL history to reach the milestone in 730 games or fewer.

NYLANDER, MATTHEWS CONTINUE SCORING PROWESS IN ROAD WIN
William Nylander (1-1—2) scored in his fourth straight game and Auston Matthews continued his chase for the Maurice ‘Rocket’ Richard Trophy as the Maple Leafs (26-17-7, 59 points) continued their offensive success on the road in 2019-20.

* The Maple Leafs, who have averaged a League-best 3.76 goals per game as the visitors this season, have netted at least four tallies (excluding shootout-deciding goals) in each of their last seven road games. It matched the longest single-season stretch in franchise history (also 7 GP from Oct. 27 – Nov. 18, 1981 and Oct. 5 – Nov. 2, 1983).

* Only three teams in the last 25 years have completed a campaign with a higher goals-per-game average on the road than Toronto’s current scoring pace: Washington (3.83 in 2009-10), Colorado (3.78 in 1995-96) and Detroit (3.78 in 2005-06). Meanwhile, the Maple Leafs can register the franchise’s highest such average in nearly 40 years (3.98 in 1980-81).

* Matthews (35-23—58), who moved within two goals of Boston’s David Pastrnak (37-33—70) for the NHL’s goal-scoring lead, became the first Maple Leafs player to record 35-plus tallies through his first 50 games of a season since Dave Andreychuk (39-29—68) and Wendel Clark (37-21—58) each did so in 1993-94.

BENN, STARS OUTDUEL STAMKOS, LIGHTNING AT AMERICAN AIRLINES CENTER
Lightning captain Steven Stamkos scored twice, including a game-tying goal with 1:26 remaining in regulation, but Stars captain Jamie Benn netted his second goal of the contest 2:07 into overtime as the Stars (28-17-4, 60 points) captured their third win in their last four games at American Airlines Center.

* Stamkos’ game-tying goal helped the Lightning salvage a point and extend Andrei Vasilevskiy’s personal point streak to 13 games dating to Dec. 17, 2019 (2.04 GAA, .932 SV%, 2 SO). Vasilevskiy, who owns the longest such run by any goaltender in 2019-20, posted his third career point streak of at least 13 games (also 13-0-1 in 2017-18 and 11-0-2 in 2018-19).

* The 25-year-old became the fifth goaltender in NHL history to register three personal point streaks of 13-plus games, joining Hockey Hall of Fame members Martin Brodeur (1996-97, 1999-00 and 2000-01), Ken Dryden (1976-77, 1977-78 and 1978-79), Jacques Plante (1958-59, 1959-60 and 1961-62) and Tiny Thompson (1928-29 and twice in 1929-30).

VRANA, CAPITALS VANQUISH EARLY DEFICIT TO CAPTURE FOURTH STRAIGHT WIN
Jakub Vrana (1-1—2) netted the game-winning goal for the second time in as many games to extend his point streak to nine games and propel the League-leading Capitals (34-11-5, 73 points) to their fourth straight win. Washington, contesting its 50th game of 2019-20, opened up a three-point cushion on Boston in the League standings (29-10-12, 70 points).

* Vrana, who entered 2019-20 with a previous career-high point streak of three games, has collected a point in nine consecutive games dating to Jan. 3. The 23-year-old, also with five-game runs from Oct. 24 – Nov. 3, 2019 and Nov. 23 – Dec. 2, 2019, respectively, matched the longest such stretch by a Capitals player this season (also Alex Ovechkin and John Carlson: 9 GP from Oct. 8–24, 2019).

* Monday marked Washington’s League-leading 17th comeback win of the season. The club needs 11 more such victories through its final 32 games to match the highest single-season total in franchise history (28 in 2015-16). The Capitals aim to complete a campaign with the most comeback wins among all clubs for the sixth time (2015-16, 2010-11, 1985-86, 1991-92 and 1997-98).

25-YEAR-OLD HOGBERG SETS FRANCHISE MARK
Rookie Marcus Hogberg made 50 saves through regulation and overtime before dropping Monday’s contest to the Devils in a shootout. The Orebro, Sweden native established a franchise rookie record for most saves in a regular-season game. In fact, Hoberg became the fifth goaltender to post a 50-save performance this season and second Ottawa netminder (Anders Nilsson: 52 saves on Oct. 17, 2019).
