THREE SHUTOUTS ACROSS FIVE GAMES

Monday marked the 12th five-game day in NHL history to feature three or more shutouts and first since Jan. 9, 2011 (3). The most shutouts ever recorded on a five-game day is four, which occurred on Nov. 15, 1928, and happened again a week later on Nov. 22, 1928.

BINNINGTON BLANKS FLYERS IN FIRST CAREER NHL START

Jordan Binnington turned aside all 25 shots he faced in the first start of his NHL career to help the Blues blank the Flyers and improve to 4-1-0 in their last five road games.

* Binnington became the second goaltender in franchise history to record a shutout in his first career NHL start, joining Rich Parent on Jan. 26, 1999 (3-0 W at SJS). Only one other goaltender in franchise history has registered a shutout in his first-ever start with the Blues: Chris Osgood on March 15, 2003 (1-0 W at NSH).

* Binnington became the 35th goaltender in League history to post a shutout in the first start of his NHL career and the eighth to do so in the past 15 years (since 2003-04).

KARLSSON EXTENDS STREAKS AS SHARKS PICK UP THIRD STRAIGHT WIN

Erik Karlsson assisted on all three San Jose goals to help the Sharks pick up their third straight win. San Jose (24-13-7, 55 points) occupies third place in the Pacific Division standings, one point back of Vegas (26-15-4, 56 points).

* Karlsson has collected at least one assist/point in each of his last 13 appearances dating to Dec. 7 (1-21—22). He established a franchise record for most consecutive personal appearances with at least one point, eclipsing the previous mark of 12 games set by Rob Gaudreau from Dec. 3-29, 1992 (14-5—19) and equaled by Jonathan Cheechoo from Dec. 26, 2005 – Jan. 24, 2006 (10-9—19).

* Karlsson became the 15th differentdefenseman in NHL history to record at least one point in 13 or more consecutive appearances and just the second to do so in the last 20 years (since 1998-99), joining Philadelphia’s Shayne Gostisbehere from Jan. 19 – Feb. 20, 2016 (5-13—18 in 15 GP). The NHL record for most consecutive appearances with a point by a defenseman is 28, a mark set by Edmonton’s Paul Coffey from Nov. 27, 1985 – Jan. 25, 1986 (16-39—55).

* Karlsson, however, became just the sixth defenseman in NHL history to register at least one assist in 13 or more consecutive appearances and first since Winnipeg’s Phil Housley from Dec. 26, 1992 – Jan. 19, 1993 (3-21—24 in 14 GP).

FLAMES QUARTET ACHIEVE RARE FEAT IN WIN

Johnny Gaudreau (2-0—2), Sean Monahan (1-1—2), Elias Lindholm (0-2—2) and Matthew Tkachuk (0-1—1) each found the scoresheet as the Western Conference-leading Flames improved to 27-13-4 (58 points) this season, two points ahead of the idle Golden Knights (26-15-4, 56 points).

* Lindholm (20-30—50 in 44 GP) and Tkachuk (19-31—50 in 44 GP) became the third and fourth Flames players to reach the 50-point mark this season, joining Gaudreau (26-38—64 in 44 GP) and Monahan (23-31—54 in 44 GP). Calgary became the first team to feature four players each with 50 or more points within its first 45 games of a season since Pittsburgh in 1995-96 (Ron Francis, Mario Lemieux, Jaromir Jagr and Tomas Sandstrom).

* Gaudreau, meanwhile, became the ninth different player in franchise history to score 26 or more goals through the first 44 team games in a season and first since Jarome Iginla in 2007-08 (32-28—60).

Flames forward Johnny Gaudreau extended his goal streak to five games (7-6—13), the longest active run in the NHL. His career high for longest goal streak is six games, a mark he set from Nov. 7-20, 2017 (7-6—13).

* Thirteen different players have recorded a goal streak of at least five games in 2018-19, the highest such total through the first 656 contests of a season since 2005-06 (21).

WILD EARN NINTH CONSECUTIVE WIN AGAINST CANADIENS

Devan Dubnyk denied all 32 shots he faced to help the Wild improve to 9-0-0 in their last nine games against the Canadiens dating to Dec. 3, 2014 (MTL: 0-9-0), outscoring them 36-10 in those contests. Minnesota matched its franchise record for longest regular-season win streak against one opponent, a mark set against Chicago from Jan. 20, 2006 – Jan. 11, 2008 and Phoenix from Nov. 24, 2006 – Nov. 13, 2008.

* The Wild extended their road win streak to four games and improved to 21-17-3 (45 points) this season, surpassing the idle Canucks (20-21-4, 44 points) and Ducks (19-17-7, 45 points) for the second Wild Card spot in the Western Conference standings.

* Dubnyk recorded his 21st regular-season shutout since being acquired by the Wild on Jan. 15, 2015, the most among all goaltenders in that span.

PREDATORS BLANK MAPLE LEAFS TO CLIMB CENTRAL DIVISION STANDINGS

Mattias Ekholm (1-1—2) scored the winning goal for the second straight game (also Jan. 5 at MTL) to help the Predators blank the Maple Leafs and extend their point streak to five contests (4-0-1). Nashville improved 26-15-3 (55 points) this season and leapfrogged idle Winnipeg (26-13-2, 54 points) for first place in the Central Division standings.

* Ekholm became the third defenseman in franchise history to score the winning goal in consecutive team games, joining Andy Delmore from Dec. 5-7, 2002 and Roman Josi from Nov. 1-3, 2018. In addition to Ekholm and Josi, three other NHL defensemen have scored consecutive game-winning goals this season: Minnesota’s Jonas Brodin (Oct. 25-27), Washington’s Michal Kempny (Nov. 21-23) and Edmonton’s Oscar Klefbom(Nov. 27-29).

* The Predators improved to 14-3-2 (30 points) against Eastern Conference opponents this season, the best such record among Western Conference teams. The most wins recorded by a team against interconference opponents in a season is 30, a mark set by the Canadiens in 1976-77 (30-2-4, 64 points).

GOLDEN KNIGHTS, ISLANDERS LOOK TO EXTEND WIN STREAKS

The Golden Knights (26-15-4, 56 points) and Islanders (23-13-4, 50 points) look to extend their respective winning streaks to seven games on Tuesday – their current six-game winning streaks are the longest active runs in the NHL.

* Vegas’ current six-game winning streak is two shy of the club’s longest, an eight-game run from Dec. 14, 2017 – Jan. 2, 2018. The Golden Knightsalso boast the NHL’s longest active point streak (7-0-2 since Dec. 20) and home point streak (9-0-2 since Nov. 23).

* The Islanders are looking to register the team’s first seven-game winning streak since a nine-game stretch 29 years ago (9-0-0 from Dec. 31, 1989 – Jan. 19, 1990). Goaltender Robin Lehner is 7-0-0 in his last seven appearances (1.22 GAA, .959 SV%, 1 SO). He can become the fourth Islanders netminder to record a winning streak longer than seven games and first since Jaroslav Halak’s club-record 11-game stretch set in 2014-15 (11-0-0 from Nov. 5 – Dec. 4, 2014).
