CHARA TURNS BACK THE CLOCK IN BRUINS WIN . . .

Zdeno Chara (2-0—2) recorded his first multi-goal game since Jan. 25, 2014 and Jaroslav Halak turned aside all 26 shots he faced as the Bruins improved to 6-2-2 this season, including a 4-0-0 record at TD Garden.

* Chara (41 years, 221 days) became just the third defenseman in NHL history to score multiple goals in a game at 41 years of age or older, joining Hall of Famers Tim Horton (41 years, 277 days) on Oct. 16, 1971 (w/ PIT) and Nicklas Lidstrom (41 years, 191 days) on Nov. 5, 2011 (w/ DET).

. . . TWO ROOKIE DEFENSEMEN SCORE FIRST CAREER NHL GOALS

A pair of teenage defensemen, Evan Bouchard of the Oilers and Miro Heiskanen of the Stars, scored their first career NHL goals to help their respective clubs earn victories on Thursday.

* Bouchard (19 years, 5 days), who was the 10th overall pick in the 2018 NHL Draft, became the youngest defenseman in Oilers franchise history to score a goal when he registered his first NHL point by scoring on the power play. Last season with the London Knights, Bouchard ranked first among all defensemen and eighth in the entire Ontario Hockey League with 87 points (25-62—87) — a campaign that also included 10 power-play goals.

* Heiskanen (19 years, 99 days) netted the game-winning goal to become the second-youngest defenseman in Stars/North Stars franchise history to find the back of the net, trailing only Ron Meighan (18 years, 207 days w/ MNS).

* Bouchard and Heiskanen became the second and third teenage defensemen to score a goal this season, joining Sabres blueliner and No. 1 selection in the 2018 NHL Draft, Rasmus Dahlin.

PENGUINS, BLUE JACKETS PILE ON THE GOALS IN VICTORY

The Penguins scored nine times to extend their winning streak to three games and the Blue Jackets tallied seven goals to improve to 5-4-0 this season.

* Sidney Crosby recorded 1-2—3 to help the Penguins score nine goals in a game for the first time since Dec. 11, 2008 vs. NYI, a game in which Crosby also recorded three points (0-3—3). Pittsburgh became the first team to score nine goals in a game this season — last season two teams accomplished the feat (CHI: 10 vs. PIT on Oct. 5, 2017; MTL: 10 vs. DET on Dec. 2, 2017).

* Phil Kessel (2-0—2) scored twice for the Penguins while skating in his 700th consecutive game. The 700-game run marks the ninth longest consecutive games played streak in League history and the third longest active streak.

* Artemi Panarin (0-3—3) collected at least three assists in a game for the second time this season and the eighth time in his NHL career. Only four players have recorded more such outings since the beginning of the 2015-16 season when Panarin made his NHL debut: Nicklas Backstrom (13), Ryan Getzlaf (11), Erik Karlsson (11) and Evgeny Kuznetsov (11).

* Panarin, whose three points were all primary assists, ranks among the NHL’s top 10 in that statistic since the beginning of the 2017-18 season.

PREDATORS RALLY TO ESTABLISH FRANCHISE RECORD

The Predators tied the game on three separate occasions and Kyle Turris (1-1—2) scored with 1:25 remaining in overtime to help the Predators improve 8-2-0 this season. The 2018-19 campaign marks the second time in franchise history that the club has recorded eight wins through their first 10 games of a season (8-1-1 in 2005-06).

* Nashville has won each of its first five road games of a season for the first time in franchise history. They joined Toronto, who accomplished the feat Wednesday, as the only clubs to do so in 2018-19. Only one other season in NHL history has witnessed two different teams win their opening five road games (NYI: 6-0-0 and DET: 6-0-0 in 2001-02).

* Thursday marked the seventh time in franchise history that the Predators overcame at least three separate deficits to win a regular-season game and second in the calendar year: also Feb. 27 at WPG.

DUCHENE SET TO RETURN TO COLORADO FOR FIRST TIME

Senators forward Matt Duchene, who played his first eight full NHL seasons with the Avalanche, is set to return to Pepsi Center for the first time as a visitor when Colorado hosts Ottawa. Duchene has played in two games against the Avalanche since being acquired by the Senators on Nov. 5, 2017, with each taking place in Stockholm, Sweden as part of the 2017 SAP NHL Global Series.

* Duchene collected 178-250—428 in 586 regular-season games with Colorado from 2009-10 to 2017-18, including a career-high 30 goals in 2015-16 when he became the first Avalanche player to reach the 30-goal mark in a season since franchise legends Joe Sakic (36) and Milan Hejduk (35) in 2006-07.

AHO LOOKS TO EXTEND SEASON-OPENING POINT STREAK TO 10 GAMES

Hurricanes forward Sebastian Aho looks to extend his season-opening point streak to 10 games when Carolina hosts San Jose at PNC Arena.

* Aho (4-10—14 in 9 GP) can become the second player in Hurricanes/Whalers franchise history to record at least one point in each of the team’s first 10 team games to begin a season, in which he would join Ron Francis in 1984-85 (6-8—14 in 11 GP). The franchise record for longest point streak at any point in a season is 18 games, a mark set by Mike Rogers from Nov. 22, 1980 – Jan. 2, 1981 (19-20—39).

* Aho (Rauma, Finland), whose run is tied for the longest season-opening point streak in League history by a Finnish-born player (w/ Mikko Rantanen in 2018-19), can become the 13th skater in NHL history born outside of North America to record at least one point in each of his team’s first 10 team games to open a campaign.
