He can wear it or not, it’s obviously not part of his SPC. IMO he would’ve been better off not making any statement, though. It just seems inconsistent: “I love everyone because Jesus tells me to, but Jesus also tells me to not support this entire group of people?” What the hell is that?
I also wonder if this hurts him as a free agent. “Distraction,” all that.
Right? It's like if someone's religion told them not to support Irish people, and so he refused to wear the St Patty's Day warmup gear, or the St Pats gear like the Leafs wore yesterday. Sounds like hyperbole, but it isn't.
It’s just a very nonsensical reason, to me. The Bible says to avoid shellfish but I’ll bet he’s had lobster or crab legs a time or two. It also says not to toil on the Sabbath in favor of worship—how many weekend games has he dressed for over his career?
You can’t just pick and choose this Jesus stuff when it suits you. He has the right to skip wearing the Pride jersey; fine. He has the right to tell everyone who he is with his extremely disingenuous justification. We all have the right to call that out.
Good on Reimer for standing up for his beliefs. Apparently Kapernick can but Tebow can't?? Hypocrites. This crap has no place in sports, much less Hockey. Shame on the League and owners for supporting these fringe activities. Its just boob bait for the current bubbas.
You’re the guy bringing up Kaep and Tebow. I have no idea what Tebow even used to do. Also, if you think supporting gay people is “fringe,” I have no idea what to tell you.
People have been gay forever. There are gay NHL’ers—yes, plural. That cursed gayness is all around but they’re just people who are different, who’ve been stepped on historically.
But he can’t show support for them because the same Jesus who preaches love for everyone also says not to? Make that make sense. I don’t care if he wears the thing or not. He’s told the world who he is.
Yawn yawn yawn.
Again, the rainbow people can’t celebrate those that celebrate them, they must have 100% compliance or we must shame you into compliance. The light is now on Reimer instead of talking to the players that are happy to do it and show support.
I wish he thought differently. Now move on.
But that’s not enough; people want to brow beat you into submission, using their social media powers to go after your job and whatever else they can take from you.
It’s sick.
I lied when I wrote this. I don’t care if he ever changes his mind or how he feels.
It’s “sick” to point out his nonsense biblical comments surrounding this? He’s a public figure who made a decision and released statement(s) trying to justify the decision.
If your thing is “stick to sports,” why was Reimer the guy who brought up the Bible?
I still would like to know why anyone thinks it’s fine that he’s comfortable applying the scripture selectively. If anyone can respond, I’m all ears.
