Kukla's Korner Hockey

It's Cyber Monday Day

11/26/2012 at 8:30am EST

Normally on Cyber Monday I would list the numerous affiliates I have which are associated with the NHL, such as apparel, sweaters, hats, decorations, etc.

But during the lockout, I personally don't feel it is right to advertise any of those products until we have our game back.

Yes I am taking a hit, so call this my own personal stand against anything NHL related until the NHL and NHLPA can sign a new CBA.

In the meantime, I just ask if you do shop at Amazon.com, that you use this link to make your purchases. I also want to thank those who continue to shop at Amazon.com using my affiliate link, it has really helped out.

If you are a Detroit Red Wings fan, keep reading, if not, enjoy your shopping day.

Two books I have recently read are a must have for any fan of the Red Wings.

Dr. John Finley, the long time doctor for the Wings, recently published Hockeytown Doc. (Amazon.com affiliate link, also available in Kindle format)

I am going to give you a brief excerpt from the book, which grabbed me and hopefully does the same with you.

Most of us will remember The Captain telling Sergei Fedorov he was needed, he had to play, but we have never heard the full story, until today.

Dr. Finley was in the room with Sergei and actually performed a procedure which would allow Fedorov to play...

Sergei Fedorov, lay on his side on the trainer's table, struggling for every breath and fighting off the immense pain that came with it. Moments earlier (.... Fedorov) sustained a severe costochrondral rib injury after (... being checked by an Avalanche player in a playoff game at Joe Louis Arena).

"Sergei, come on. Let's go," Stevie said.

"I can't," Sergei said, barely able to talk.

"But we need you, Sergei. Come on. We need you,' Yzerman said.

"I can't breathe," Sergei said, trying to yell back, but his voice was barely a whisper.

Dr. Finley was able to get Fedorov back on the ice but he called it "something straight out of a Hollywood movie."

The second book is by Rob Simpson and is called The Winged Wheel: A Half-Century of the Detroit Red Wings in Photographs. (Amazon.com affiliate link)

This book is a must have if you enjoy photographs, many which are rare and in high quality. A coffee table sized book, any Detroit fan would be proud to showcase the book.

Instead of my review, let's go right to the source, Rob Simpson.
