from Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic,
The Penguins are winless in their past seven games. The Blues have lost six straight in regulation. The Capitals are playing .462 hockey.
Oy.
Three programs with lengthy histories of being winners, going back more than a dozen years, that have combined for four Stanley Cups since 2016, are fighting it big time. Which is not to say they won’t come out of it. There’s too much institutional knowledge to write any of them off yet. But there are clearly some question marks.

So how's that decision to let Perron and Husso walk working out for you, St. Louis?
Without Perron on his wing, Ryan O'Reilly has one point (a goal) in nine games. And Binnington has a GAA of 3.40 and a SV% of .879 while Husso's GAA is 1.86 and his SV% is .941.
That just makes me smile.
It really cheeses me off that that in a league with designed parity, its taken 15 years for just some of these teams to come back to earth. Theres still a handful that havent gone away. Does parity really mean that five or six teams get to trade championships for a generation? Hard to see how thats much different than the pre-salary cap era.
An elite hockey player can have about 10 years of elite play, and another 2-5 more of great play. If you draft and produce a nucleus and their contracts line up, you can and should have sustained success.
The difference IMO between pre-salary cap is the ability to build even pieces of your core via free agency, vs. building almost exclusively via the draft.
Well, Pittsburgh can't win the lottery if they make the playoffs. I'm sure Gary would find a way if they did (*cough*Rangers*cough*), but it'll be easier on him if they don't. Conner Bedard will be a Penguin next season. Bank it.
