From the Chicago Blackhawks:

Blackhawks agree to terms with Seabrook

The Chicago Blackhawks announced today they have agreed to terms with defenseman Brent Seabrook on an eight-year contract extension, which runs through the end of the 2023-24 National Hockey League season.

Seabrook, 30, has helped lead the Blackhawks to three Stanley Cup championships over the past six seasons. He holds franchise records among defensemen in regular-season overtime goals (six), postseason goals (19) and postseason overtime goals (three). Seabrook also helped Canada win a gold medal at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. Last season, Seabrook received over 1,000,000 fan votes en route to his first All-Star Game appearance. The 2015-16 season will mark Seabrook’s first as alternate captain.

The Richmond, British Columbia, native has recorded 318 points (71G, 247A) in 763 career regular-season games with Chicago dating back to 2005-06. He ranks second among all-time Chicago defensemen in game-winning goals (14), shares sixth in goals (71) and is eighth in assists (247) and points (318). He also ranks 15th among all-time Blackhawks skaters in 763 regular-season games played. Seabrook shares third among all-time franchise blueliners in postseason games played (112) and power-play goals (5), and is fourth in points (57) and fifth in assists (38). He also set a single-postseason franchise record among defensemen with seven goals in 2015.

Seabrook appeared in eight games for Canada in the 2006 World Championships. He also earned a gold medal with Canada in the 2005 World Junior Championships and placed fourth in the 2004 World Junior Championships. Prior to his professional career, he recorded 176 points (39G, 137A) in 264 tilts with the Lethbridge Hurricanes of the Western Hockey League. Seabrook was selected by the Blackhawks in the first round, fourteenth overall, of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.

Eight years, $55 million for Brent Seabrook. That's an average of $6.875 million per season. A must sign for the Hawks. Good job there.
