from Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch,
Alexander Steen, who ranks second in the NHL with 24 goals and ninth in the league with 38 points, left Saturday’s 6-0 victory over Edmonton in the second period and didn’t return. The team announced Sunday that Steen is out with an upper-body injury, and he will miss tonight’s game against Calgary.
The Blues, following their matchup with the Flames, will be off until hosting Chicago on Saturday night at Scottrade Center, and whether Steen will be available when the club returns from the holiday break is uncertain.
Blues coach Ken Hitchcock would not disclose the nature of Steen’s injury, but it’s believed that a culmination of hits against Ottawa, Montreal and Edmonton have taken a toll. The possibility that Steen, who missed 39 games in 2012-13 with a concussion, is dealing with another head injury cannot be ruled out.
“We’ll review it right after Christmas and decide what we’re going to do there,” Hitchcock said. “We’ll see how it goes.”
