TORONTO (Sept. 21, 2016) – The National Hockey League Coaches’ Association (NHLCA) and the Executive Committee of Joel Quenneville (President), Mike Babcock, Jon Cooper, Ken Hitchcock and Mike Sullivan announced today the hiring of Michael Hirshfeld to the position of Executive Director, effective immediately. Hirshfeld succeeds George Kingston, who recently announced his retirement.
“We are extremely excited to have Michael lead our Association,” said Joel Quenneville, president of the NHLCA. “Coaches play an essential role in the game of hockey as leaders and teachers and we look forward to continuing to build a strong partnership with the NHL and its players.”
Hirshfeld brings extensive experience to the role having practiced as a corporate lawyer for four years at the Toronto law firm of Lang Michener. For the last 14 years, he has been a business executive in the investment industry. Hirshfeld earned his LL.B from the University of Western Ontario.
The NHLCA is a not-for-profit Association that represents head coaches, assistant coaches and associate coaches in the National Hockey League. Founded in 2000 by a group of coaches, including legendary NHL coach Scotty Bowman, the NHLCA is committed to helping and developing minor league and youth coaches in the advancement of hockey coaching.
