Red Wings Options with Players and Payroll

01/27/2009 at 4:52pm EST

You know me I am always tinkering. Looking at ways to keep the roster somewhat intact and payroll not insane. A couple of options I thought of, and keep in mind I used the payroll info from Red Wings Central for players currently under contract for 2009-2010.

Forwards. Give zetterberg a raise to 7mil a season, give Franzen a raise to 4 mil season. Give Hudler raise to 2.2mil, gave Conklin a raise to 1mil and factoring in Ericsson, abadelkar, Lenio and Helms salary . Subtracting Samuelsson, Kopecky, Lebda and Mac’s salary.

zetterberg 7. million
Dats 6.7 mil
franzen 4. mil
Filppula 3. mil

Hudler 2.200 mil

maltby 883,000

Do you wonder if Franzen’s past injuries and games missed will be any kind of an issue in contact talks? Just a thought but someone mentioned trading Kronwall, say we did and Signed Hossa instead of Franzen and kept Lebda. Maybe Ericsson could fill the void of Kronwall on D and we have about 6.5 mil a season to give Hossa. Which power forward do you want? Hossa a proven player who scores and racks up the assists and stays relatively healthy or Franzen , less proven, who scores primarily and has some past injury issues with knee and concussions?? I know Franzen is a home grown player in the Wings system and thats a plus. It’s a fair question. maybe samuelsson stays instead of Abdelkar too?
