Blue Jackets Fans, Time To Start Showing Up!

11/23/2010 at 1:45am EST

How many times have we heard fans of pro sports teams say, “Once we have a winning team, we will really start showing up at the games.”

Well Columbus, don’t look now, but your team has had one hell of a start. In the tenth anniversary of the Blue Jackets in Columbus, the team is off to their best start.

Monday nights 2-0 home shutout win versus the tough Nashville Predators was the second straight shutout win in a row. Attendance at Nationwide Arena was only 10,095, out of a reported capacity for hockey of 18,500.

The Jackets have now won four in a row with wins over the Predators, Sharks, Ducks and the Kings. (The last three mentioned were road wins). They have also won five of six, including another win versus the Blues. They have 26 points, only two points behind the Red Wings. They are second in the tough Central Division, and tied for second in the Western Conference. This is not the second week of the season; this is almost at the quarter point of the regular season.

Besides that, what’s to get excited about in Columbus besides the Buckeyes? The Blue Jackets have a true superstar in Rick Nash, the NHL plus/minus leader Rusty Klesla (+17), a 1A and 1B set of goalies. Steve Mason is beginning to show signs of the form that earned him the Calder Cup two years ago and Mathieu Garon has been fantastic (5-1-0, 1.08 GAA, 3 SHO in 7 games). You also have a rookie head coach, Scott Arneil, and even an Ohio State Hockey Alumni in RJ Umberger.

Blue Jackets and Ohio hockey fans, it’s time to start showing your support before someone starts asking the question of whether the Blue Jackets can financially survive in Columbus.

Support your winning team!
