from Lisa Dillman of The Athletic,
Former Kings captain Norstrom talks Marc Crawford’s behavior and Sean Avery pushing people’s buttons
Norstrom, who played in 903 NHL games, appeared in 62 games in 2006-07 under Crawford. In February of that season, he was traded to the Dallas Stars in a multi-player deal which also involved draft picks.
“I never had that kind of confrontation,” said Norstrom, who was the Kings’ captain. “But he was strong-willed. I also just read that Sean Avery was one of the players that came out with information about Crow. In all fairness, that’s how Sean approached people around him and confronted people, in your face. I won’t say physical. But with in-your-face challenging. Sean did that with everyone. Players, coaches, opponents, teammates. That was his way. He wouldn’t take anything from anyone. He confronted them. In your face.
“So was Crawford. He confronted people in that sense.”

From the AP via the IHT,
Dallas Stars defenseman Mattias Norstrom is retiring with immediate effect, Swedish tabloid Aftonbladet said Tuesday.
“Dallas wanted to keep me, but it is over now,” the 36-year old Swede was quoted as saying on the newspaper’s Web site. “I promised myself 10 years ago that I would quit while I still had a strong position in the team. And now it is over.”

From the Dallas Stars,
The Dallas Stars announced today that the club has placed defenseman Mattias Norstrom on the injured reserve list retroactive to November 9. The Stars also recalled defenseman Mark Fistric from the Iowa Stars, Dallas’ primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).
Norstrom, 35, suffered a small fracture to his orbital bone in the Stars’ Nov. 7 contest at San Jose and will be re-evaluated in two weeks.

from the Star-Telegram,
When the Stars acquired Norstrom in February, they got a big defenseman who added a more defensive touch to the blue line. They also got a player who has a take-charge quality about him, be it on the ice, in the locker room—or when they had their team-bonding exercises recently in Colorado.
“He’s a natural leader, that’s just who he is,” coach Dave Tippett said. “When you come in the middle of the year, it’s not hard but you don’t get the full effect of things. He’s come in this year and he’s familiar with the group. He’s very good for us, on and off the ice.”
