Garnet Hathaway Suspended Three Games For Spitting

TORONTO (November 20, 2019) – Washington Capitals forward Garnet Hathaway has been suspended for three games, without pay, for a spitting incident involving Anaheim defenseman Erik Gudbranson during NHL Game No. 316 in Washington on Monday, Nov. 18, the National Hockey League announced today.
The incident occurred at 19:26 of the second period. Hathaway was assessed a match penalty.
Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and, based on his average annual salary, Hathaway will forfeit $24,193.53. The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

Garnet Hathaway Will Meet With Hockey Operations Tomorrow

Garnet Hathaway will have a hearing with the NHL Department of Hockey Operations on Wednesday.
The Washington Capitals forward is facing discipline for spitting on Anaheim Ducks defenseman Erik Gudbranson with 34 seconds left in the second period of Washington's 5-2 win at Capital One Arena on Monday.
Hathaway received a match penalty. Gudbranson received a roughing minor and a 10-minute misconduct penalty.
Following the incident, the following penalties also were assessed: Hathaway and Anaheim forward Derek Grant each received a fighting major; Capitals forward Brendan Leipsic and Ducks defenseman Brendan Guhle each received a double minor for roughing; and Anaheim forward Nick Ritchie received a game misconduct for being the third man into the fight between Hathaway and Grant.

Did Garnet Hathaway think it was a turnbuckle?
Below, you can make the call on Brad Marchand late in the 3rd period.
IMO, no harm. Vatanen skated into Marchand and may have been trying to draw a penalty.
