Anthony Duclair Appears To Have Settled In With Ottawa

from Frank Seravalli of TSN,
Remember when John Tortorella eviscerated Anthony Duclair last season, saying he thought Duclair didn’t know how to play?
“I don’t think he knows how to play; I don’t,” Tortorella said last February, just hours before a game in Duclair’s hometown of Montreal, no less. “I don’t know if he just can’t comprehend or he’s just stubborn … He’s off the rails.”
Tortorella was certainly reminded on Saturday, after Duclair torched Torts’ Blue Jackets with a hat trick, becoming the first player in Ottawa Senators history to complete the trick with an overtime winner.
Ripped by Tortorella on his way out of Columbus. Five different NHL teams in six seasons. Three consecutive one-year contracts.
It’s fair to declare that Duclair’s renaissance in the nation’s capital is one of the best individual hockey stories of the season.

Anthony Duclair Is On The Bubble In Columbus
by Paul on 09/24/18 at 08:45 AM ET

from Mark Znidar of the Columbus Dispatch,
Fifteen minutes and 13 seconds isn’t even a lot of time to get taped and dressed for a hockey game, but that’s how long Anthony Duclair had to show his stuff to Blue Jackets coaches Sunday afternoon in a preseason game.
Duclair is the fleet left wing attempting to prove to a third franchise in three seasons that his 20 goals and 24 assists as a rookie with Arizona in 2015-16 were not an aberration.
With three preseason games remaining, the 23-year-old knows that he is on the clock. On Sunday, he took one shot, blocked a shot and was called for a two-minute slashing penalty in a 5-1 loss to St. Louis at Nationwide Arena.
“I come here every day and give it my all, whether it’s preseason or practice,” Duclair said. “I try to build chemistry with whoever I’m playing with that day. It’s still too early to tell (whether I make the team). I can only control what I can control, and that’s to work hard, and the coaching staff will figure it out.”

Arizona Coyotes Assign Anthony DuClair To The Tuscon Roadrunners
by Paul on 01/19/17 at 08:55 PM ET

GLENDALE, ARIZONA - Arizona Coyotes General Manager John Chayka announced today that the Coyotes have assigned forward Anthony Duclair to the Tucson Roadrunners, the club's American Hockey League affiliate (AHL).
"Anthony is a good young player," said Chayka. "Unfortunately, he has struggled this season. We felt this was a good time to send him to Tucson to work on a few things and hopefully regain his scoring touch. We hope to have him rejoin our team soon."
The 21-year-old Duclair has registered 3-6-9 in 41 games with the Coyotes this season and has tallied 24-36-60 in 140 career games over three seasons with the Coyotes and New York Rangers.

The Duo Of Anthony Duclair And Max Domi
by Paul on 10/22/15 at 09:43 AM ET

from Frank Seravalli of TSN,
The duo has only sporadically played together so far - mostly on the power play - yet Domi has fed Duclair for three of his team-leading five goals, including a game-tying, feathery soft saucer pass in the third period on Tuesday night against the Devils.
“They have brought exactly what we thought they could. They are quick, they’re strong with the puck and they’re extremely skilled,” Maloney said. “To be honest, I’m not sure where we’d be right now without them.”
Of course, Maloney cautioned that it’s still ridiculously early in the season.
Domi and “The Duke” will no longer be catching teams by surprise, not after Duclair’s hat trick against the Ducks. And Duclair’s staggering five goals on nine shots - a staggering 55.6 shooting percentage - is unsustainable.
“I wish it was,” Maloney said, laughing.
Maloney is most impressed by the fact that two 20-year-olds have not only “built some credibility” with Arizona’s veterans, but that they’ve dragged a few of them along for the ride.

Kudos for Coyotes

Among TSN's Scott Cullen's "Top 10 Storylines of the Week":
HOT START IN THE DESERT
A team that was expected to finish at the bottom of the standings coming into the year, the Arizona Coyotes have opened the season by winning three of four games.
The biggest excitement comes from rookie wingers Max Domi and Anthony Duclair, who have combined to score seven of the team’s 13 goals.
Other difference-makers include veteran centre Martin Hanzal, who has seven assists, and goaltender Mike Smith, who has a .953 save percentage.
While none of this early production appears to be remotely sustainable, a hot Mike Smith could make a major difference. For example, the difference between Smith’s 2011-2012 season, when he had a career-high .930 save percentage, and last season, when he had a .904 save percentage, was approximately a 55-goal difference according to Hockey Reference.

‘Around the league’ from ESPN
by George Malik on 10/15/15 at 10:13 AM ET

Of note from ESPN's morning "3 on 3":
AROUND THE LEAGUE
• How about Michal Neuvirth? The Philadelphia Flyers goaltender made 30 saves en route to a 3-0 win over the defending Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday. It was Neuvirth's second consecutive shutout. He made 31 saves in a 1-0 win over the Florida Panthers on Monday. His biggest save Wednesday came when he stoned the Blackhawks' Marian Hossa on a breakaway to secure Philadelphia's 1-0 lead. For all the years the Flyers struggled with their goaltending, Neuvirth seems like he could be the answer.
• The Ottawa Senators trounced the Blue Jackets on Wednesday, and Columbus should be a lot better than 0-4. They proved it last season with a strong finish, but the 2015-2016 season has begun with a major skid that is cause for concern.
• It was an interesting night all around the NHL on Wednesday, including a shocking development in the West with that stunning Coyotes shutout of the Ducks. Arizona rookie Anthony Duclair recorded his first career hat trick, while goaltender Mike Smith has returned to form and made 37 saves en route to the shutout win.

The Story Of Anthony Duclair
by Paul on 10/13/14 at 12:20 PM ET

I retweeted this earlier today but the majority of KK readers are not on Twitter, so...
from Bob McKenzie of TSN,
It’s early yet – just three games in for the New York Rangers – but one of the more fascinating stories of the young NHL season is that of Anthony Duclair.
The 19-year-old could be back with the Quebec Remparts of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League but instead he’s skating alongside Marty St. Louis and Rick Nash on the Blueshirts’ top line. And, so far, looking awfully good doing it.
He played only 11:12 in the Rangers’ opening night win in St. Louis, but was up to 14:09 two nights later in a loss at Columbus, picking up his first two NHL points on lovely primary assists, one on a Lee Stempniak goal and another on a Nash goal. The Rangers’ home opener was an unmitigated disaster – a 6-3 loss to Toronto – but Duclair was a bright spot on an otherwise dismal night. He led all Rangers forwards in icetime with 18:36, in part because linemate Nash left after two periods to be with his wife who had gone into labor, but Duclair was noticeable, winning battles, controlling the puck, making plays, and generating shots (three on goal, six attempted).
Listed at 5-foot-11 and 185 pounds - Duclair looks bigger and stronger than that. He’s got an oversized engine in that mid-range chassis, high-end, explosive speed and power to go with the flashy stick-and-puck skills that helped him to score 50 goals and 99 points in only 59 games for the Remparts last season.
