Zajac Will Miss Time

Per Brian Compton of the NHL
“Devils GM Lou Lamoriello confirmed Thursday that Travis Zajac, who finished third on the club last season with 44 points (13 goals, 31 assists), will miss the first month and a half of the season after undergoing surgery to repair his left Achilles tendon. Zajac suffered the injury Wednesday during an off-ice training workout.”
With the season approaching quick, this could be a blow to the Devils confidence going into the home opener against Philadelphia. Zajac has been the ironman of this team upon his arrival, playing in 401 consecutive games. The Devils will need to be sure that Zajac is 100% when he comes back, because another aggravation to the Achilles could leave him sitting out longer then a month and a half.
“Possible replacements on the top line include Dainius Zubrus and Patrik Elias.”
Either one will do in the center, but then it will take a little bit of shuffling to make the lines and complete as they need to be. The only good news is that this injury happened before the season, so DeBoer has some time to look at the depth chart and make some decisions.

Ouch, hope it doesn’t start a rash of injuries again for the devils this year.

Alanah- very true!
Squirrely - Yes that would be quite unfortunate. However, this opens up an opportunity for Joseffson or Henrique to make their way into the lineup, which could turn out to be a good thing.

It’s not every day you hear about a guy having an actual injured Achilles.
It’s like he’s been sidelined by a metaphor.
