COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Patrick Kane (Buffalo, N.Y.), a three-time Stanley Cup champion with the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks, will serve as captain of the 2019 U.S. Men's National Team it was announced today by USA Hockey. The squad will compete in the upcoming IIHF Men's World Championship, set for May 10-26 in Kosice and Bratislava, Slovakia.

USA Hockey expects to name its preliminary roster for the 2019 U.S. Men's National Team later this week.

Kane, who recently completed his 12th NHL season -- all with the Chicago Blackhawks -- recorded a career-high 110 points in 2018-19 (44 goals, 66 assists).

"It's great to have Patrick back and captaining our team again in the world championship," said Jeff Blashill, head coach of the 2019 U.S. Men's National Team and also the head coach of the NHL's Detroit Red Wings. "He's one of the most dynamic players in the game today and passionate about helping bring a gold medal home to our country."

Kane has represented Team USA on the international stage on seven previous occasions, including serving as captain of the bronze medal-winning 2018 U.S. Men's National Team. He has also helped the U.S. to a gold medal at the 2006 IIHF Under-18 Men's World Championship, a silver medal at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games and a bronze medal at the 2007 IIHF World Junior Championship. Kane has also skated for the United States at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey, the 2014 Olympic Winter Games and the 2008 IIHF Men's World Championship.

A product of USA Hockey's National Team Development Program, Kane was the first overall pick in the 2007 NHL Draft. He was awarded the Calder Memorial Trophy in 2007-08 as the NHL's top rookie after leading all NHL rookies with 72 points (21-51).

Kane's NHL career is headlined by helping the Blackhawks to three Stanley Cup championships (2010, 2013, 2015), which includes his Conn Smythe Trophy winning performance in the 2013 Stanley Cup Playoffs. In 2015-16, Kane posted a franchise-record 26-game point streak (16 goals, 24 assists) and recorded 106 points (46G, 60A) to become the first American-born player to earn the Art Ross Trophy, awarded to the NHL point leader at the end of the regular season. He also captured the Ted Lindsay Award that season as the league’s most outstanding player (voted on by members of the NHL Players Association).
