What Exactly Does Exec. VP & Alternate Governor Brett Hull Do?

Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News answers some emails.

Q: Mike, been meaning to ask: What has become of Brett Hull ? Have not seen one word about him for a long while, except in context of the Sean Avery mistake. Is he still affiliated with the Stars or has he joined Mike Modano in Michigan? Or is he just out on the golf course? Just wondering.

HEIKA: Hey guys, Brett is officially an executive vice president and alternate governor for the Stars. That is a fancy way to say he still is on his contract as a co-GM, but he really does try to do everything he can to help the Stars.

Because it is awkward to have a former front office person helping out with the new GM, Hull does not have a real role in player personnel in the front office. Instead, he helps the sales and marketing department in getting big ticket buyers to come on board (whether that’s in the form of suites or season tickets or advertising packages). He also is a candidate to go to any of the Board of Governors meetings for the NHL.
