We Have A Game 7 Between Toronto And Tampa

from Terry Koshan of the Toronto Sun,

Don’t go exorcising those playoff ghosts just yet.

The Maple Leafs and Tampa Bay Lightning will decide their best-of-seven first-round series in Game 7 in Toronto on Saturday night.

The Leafs’ elimination-game frustration continued on Thursday night at Amalie Arena, as Toronto failed to put away the two-time defending Stanley Cup champion and lost 4-3 in overtime.

Brayden Point scored the winning goal at 18:04 of the extra period, sliding a rebound past Leafs goalie Jack Campbell.

Lightning goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy made nine saves in overtime, including tough stops on Alex Kerfoot and Ilya Mikheyev.

Since 2018, the Leafs are 0-8 in elimination games. A ninth consecutive loss on Saturday would make a short memory of the best regular season in Leafs history, when the team set franchise records with 54 wins and 115 points.

Seen this in the past two years.  # 88 refusing to lose.  Bend but not break.

Kucherov woke up just in time to tie it.  I called my son after the game (he is on a trip) to wish him good night and told him Tampa won.  When he asked “who scored” I said “did you even have to ask?”  and he said Brayden Point.  THAT guy is a KILLER in the playoffs. # 88 reminds me of BIlly Smith in that the numbers don’t always matter.  He just won’t give up a goal that decides the game.  I get the feeling that bunch of the better players on Tampa are hurting.

Very impressed with Toronto.  Tavares played very well.  #34 and # 16 are awesome.

No idea how it turns out - but this has been a great series to watch.

Game 7 should be a doozy

This is the perfect setup for Leafs to choke again!
Unfortunately I think they win game 6 and move on.
It was fun while it lasted….

Kas, spot on! I said the exact same 5 things to my hockey crew last night. Vas stole that game in OT, Hedman as well, Vas’s season was not ending at home, on back to back loses, just wasn’t going to happen.

Tampa is hurting for sure, Kucherov not playing the same, Point is injured, undisclosed.  I also think the team misses Yanni Gorde a lot, that young strong legged physical forcheck and willingness to drive hard to the net, and on the back pressure, he brought a lot of lift to that team that without they look tired, Hagel has more skill but not those legs.

On the Toronto side, Mathews and Taverse goaltending defense, etc. etc. etc. just looks like a different team than in years past, they were buzzing in OT, what a game.

Game 7, HNIC, AT Toronto, whoa boy, Toronto is either going to take this one, or crumble under the pressure, and i’m not sure which way to it will go either. Leaning Toronto, but its hard to bet against Vas & Hedman too.

Tampa looked sluggish, unorganized, and tired until they scored the tieing goal in the third. You could see the switch flip, they were buzzing after that.

I would love to see Tampa beat Toronto in Toronto. I don’t care if the lightning get swept in the second round… Actually that would make it that much better. I just want to see the Leafs crumble.
