So when Kucherov struggled to crawl his way over teammates’ legs on the bench and hobble into the dressing room midway through the third period Saturday night, his fellow players got worried. You rarely see him in that much pain.

“It didn’t look good,” Steven Stamkos said. “We’re praying he’s OK.”

The Lightning will know more about the severity of Kucherov’s injury when he’s evaluated again upon their return to Tampa, with coach Jon Cooper saying nobody should “hit the panic button.” The fact the winger wasn’t laboring as he walked out of the arena seemed like a good sign.
