Why can’t Stephen A. Smith discuss something without screaming?  I’ll never understand how this guy is liked by everyone.  Was there any more hockey talk on the show or was this it? P.K. brings up some good points, but then just gets yelled at until they hit their quota about NHL talk.  PK seems ready to do NHL media soon.

Accessibility seems to be a huge part.  Down in the lovely heat of Arizona, we only have 1 sheet of ice in Tucson for the city and its only available part of the year when its not in use by the college team or yotes farm team (roadrunners).  Obviously if you don’t get kids growing up playing the sport it makes it tougher to keep them interested moving forward.

I have been pleasantly surprised with how the NHL seems to be doing with the espn deal though.  Seems like it has definitely helped the situation and I hope ESPN continues to at least give it a shot to keep the NHL and keep promoting it.

Stephen A doesn’t like hockey because he wasn’t IMMEDATELY good at skating when he tried it the first time as a middle-aged man?

That didn’t stop him from continuing his broadcast career.

For sure. If he doesn’t get a contract this summer I could easily see him transitioning to broadcasting.

Tell you what - PK would be 47 times more interesting on ESPN as a commentator than Chelios and Messier.  Besides his personality, he (if retired) would be a recent retiree, who played against most of the (next year) NHL players.  He could provide tremendous insight into WHY teams play the way they do and tendencies of certain players and why things happened on the ice

He would be a terrific brand ambassador to the NHL and could help lead a drive to help make the game more affordable (as he stated in this piece) and help the NHL seek new audiences and new talent to play the game.  As a decorated NHL player, he would be great in that role and I am a big fan of his.  Many NHL teams are driving more diversity and inclusion efforts in attracting talent to the game (Pittsburgh seems to have a good program - the Isles have “43 Oak, which via 43oakfoundation.org is actively recruiting minority talent in the NY area - the Rangers have had a long association with “Hockey in Harlem”  I bet many teams are investing in such programs and boy, would PK be a great NHL coordinator as well as other retired NHL players from a minority background - but he would be great because of his oversized personality (which I mean in a POSITIVE way - he lights up a room!)

That said - PK is not done as an NHL Player - if he so chose.  As a 9 mm cap hit player - he is DONE.  But let’s see what happens with him.

Stevey Smith?  just ignore.
