Video- Joe Thornton Fined For ‘Slashing’

NEW YORK (Oct. 20, 2021) – Florida Panthers forward Joe Thornton has been fined $1,875, the maximum allowable under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, for slashing Tampa Bay Lightning forward Boris Katchouk during NHL Game No. 42 in Tampa Bay on Tuesday, Oct. 19, the National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety announced today.

Not the first time the NHL has called this a slash instead of a spear.

Imagine having as long and productive a career as
Thornton has had - and it will end up being somewhat marred
by being a letdown and loser on every team he’s played on,
and for his continual cheap stick work, which pretty much always seems
to be treated with a slap on the wrist if any punishment at all.
Huge man, and he casually uses his stick like this. I still remember
him pulling Nik Kronwall’s hair. Ought to be an all-time great.
But this is who is instead.
