NEW YORK (Jan. 3, 2020) – Dallas Stars forward Corey Perry has been suspended for five games, without pay, for elbowing Nashville Predators defenseman Ryan Ellis during NHL Game No. 626 at Cotton Bowl Stadium in Dallas on Wednesday, Jan. 1, the National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety announced today.

The incident occurred at 2:40 of the first period. Perry received a major penalty and game misconduct for elbowing.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and, based on his average annual salary, Perry will forfeit $40,322.60. The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

Ryan Ellis was placed on IR today with reports of a concussion.

BS. The NHL will never get rid of dirty play like this without longer suspensions. 5 games is a nice break in the middle of the season. A 15-20 game suspension while not allowing the team to fill that roster spot would clean up the game.

Increments of 5 game suspensions after the 1st 5 mins is reached. Higher penalties I will highly support/  NHLPA is ending their players careers over a few $$,  sounds backwards to me.  A Concussion will take him out of the game for awhile but that injury never really goes away completely. BUTTMAN/NHLPA WAKE UP!!

Yeah, that’s something Ellis has to deal with for life, Perry needs more than 2 weeks off.
