Video- Brad Marchand With Another Questionable Play

via Roger Mooney of the Tampa Bay Times,

When asked if he thought Marchand should have been called for a penalty, Stralman said, "I can't say. There's contact and I fall. I can't say if he did anything or not, but I'm not the puck holder. I'm out in the neutral zone, and I get hit from behind. That's all I got to say."

The NHL's Department of Player Safety will review the play. The DPS reviewed a similar play by Marchand on Jan. 24 against Detroit's Niklas Kronwall and fined Marchand $10,000.

Bruins coach Claude Julien said he did not see Marchand's hit on Stralman. When told it was similar to the one on Kronwall, Julien said, "Well, I guess I will see it."

well I guess that proves the ‘slap on the wrist’ for the Kronwall slew-foot was meaningless ...

Hillarious. Let me guess, the league won’t even look at this one, or it will be another 10K fine.
This is what, 2 same kind of dirty plays in 2 weeks?
Unbelievable.

Maybe he’ll get suspended for a few games once he takes someone out for the rest of the season doing this

This kind of “accidentally/on purpose” trip away from the play needs to be punished far more severely. It is just plain dirty. If there isn’t a rule that allows for it to be punished, make one.

They already have rules for “intent to injure”, they just need to enforce them.

What the hell is Marchand thinking?  So stupid.  Especially because he literally just did this last week too.

Elliotte Friedman tweet,

Hearing no discipline for Brad Marchand. Going towards puck, not seen as intentional like Kronwall play from last week.

No because then the player who does it to him will get suspended.

I would bet that had this happened in October or November, he would get a couple games. But because we are in the final stretch, as always the league has no guts to punish a player who is important to his team.

See, you made the faulty assumption he’s capable of conscious thought, which he’s not.

Borderline corrupt league with clear patterns of favored teams and players.

Everybody knows who Jeremy Jacobs is and that he’s the top hardliner among the owners and one of the most powerful people in the league.

Play with some other fans’ money. I’m done spending money that ends up in the owners’ pockets.

I never ever want any player to be seriously hurt. But with fighting waning and players like Marchand feeling empowered to do this crap every other night with no consequences from someone who could hurt him, or from the league, there’s a point where someone is going to lose it and return the favor with an even more dangerous cheap shot. In the meantime, Marchand will keep hiding behind his team’s pugilists, knowing he’s playing for the most favored and protected team in the league.

Problem with that is Marchand’s head doesn’t have far enough to go to the ice to cause injury.

Wings play in Boston on 8 March. They will be well out of the playoffs by then, so suspensions won’t matter much.

FWIW, Marchand makes $10,000 in about half a period.

Plays like that have no place in the game. This guy is a Tanya Harding wannabe. Speaking of, what’s jeff gillooly up to these days? Maybe wannabe Harding could use a taste of his own medicine.
