Wow, very similar to the Marchand hit. Are hip checks really that hard to execute?

Looks to me like the guy saw Phaneuf coming and could have easily laid a shoulder to shoulder hit but instead chickens out and goes for the cheap low bridge hit.

for sure is clipping.  this is exactly the same as the marchand hit last week.

I admit my bias, but the hit is nowhere near being ‘on or below’ Phaneuf’s knees. Point of contact is at the hips - it’s a hip check.

That’s even considering the fact that Phaneuf’s feet leave the ice prior to the hit and that Phaneuf is a tall guy to start with.

One blogger compares the Marchand hit: http://www.silversevensens.com/2012/1/18/2715873/silver-nuggets-nick-foligno-should-not-have-received-any-penalty#storyjump

Not comparable to Marchand’s hit.

This hit was to the hip, Marchand’s hit was to the knees. That’s a huge difference!

Geebuz guys.  The puck, the puck!  It is not a hipcheck unless Phaneuf has the puck.  OMFG that is elementary.  The refs aren’t supposed to care about the exact point of contact.  This is called turtling.  Fleeing a hit.  But look at Dion’s over-sized neck getting crunched on the landing.  God.  Not surprised he kept playing, but I’m betting he takes the morning skate off.
The same as Marchand but not as vicious.
Dirty as f*ck.
