Video- Kubina Elbow On Bolland

Pavel Kubina has a phone hearing with the NHL for this elbow on Dave Bolland last night.

No penalty on the play and sorry, this is the only video I could find.

Early word on Kubina is a three-game suspension for elbow to Dave Bolland last night, will try for exact confirmation!

TORONTO (March 10, 2011) – Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Pavel Kubina has been suspended for three games and will forfeit $60,096.76 for delivering an elbow to the head of Chicago Blackhawks forward Dave Bolland in NHL game #1005, the National Hockey League announced today.

The incident occurred at 2:09 of the first period. No penalty was assessed on the play.

His fine is based on his average annual salary and is calculated under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

That didn’t look good from here. There’ve been a lot of guys holding their elbows far from their body to hit a guy in the head in the last month or two, I remember three in the last two weeks.

To be fair to Kubina, Bolland turning his back to the offensive end of the ice as he picks up the puck was probably unexpected.

Yeah, you’re probably right, looks like Kubina had that automatic reaction to get a piece of him somehow, and his elbow was the only thing that could reach him. It’s a lot like some of the knee-on-knee/shins that happen. I think he should sit a game for it.

SK, I tried to find video on that this morning, but no luck.

I haven’t heard about any issues from the league, so I guess it will stay as is.

all this did was move the point of contact to the back of his head instead of the front.
