Good lord. His previous deal was $6.75M aav. I know he’s 38, but jeebus, he can still move the puck too.

Leafs’ management just doesn’t learn—does it?

Need a big, shut-down d-man with speed for 3rd periods in the playoffs. Sign 39 yr old (by season’s start) known for offensive production especially on the PP to a 2 year contract.

Typical Leafs.

At that price he’s a very good piece to keep and they can use some of the saved money to get a younger blue line stud.  I’d say that’s good management and good on him for taking less money to help the club.

Seriously, hard to see much downside from this contract.

Gio at that cap hit - will be a great contract for the Loafs.  Very little downside - and he could be moved fairly easily.  This may be a ‘wave of the future’ where veteran players ink below market deals to play with contending teams.  Corey Perry, Zach Parise, Gio and others will follow.

He must really want to play there.

This has been going on since the 2000s
