Tom Wilson’s Suspension Reduced To 14 Games

NEW YORK/TORONTO (Nov. 13, 2018) – The National Hockey League Players’ Association and National Hockey League announced today that Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson’s 20‑game suspension for an illegal check to the head of St. Louis Blues forward Oskar Sundqvist has been reduced by Arbitrator Shyam Das to 14 games.

Pursuant to this ruling, Wilson is eligible to play in Washington’s game tonight at the Minnesota Wild.

The decision was a long process and Wilson has missed 16 games, so he can play tonight and also saves $378,048 with the 6 game reduction.

What a joke.

This doesn’t bother me one bit, it’s still a very lengthy suspension.

Aside from this, I just hope they start handing out more severe suspensions, not this one game two game stuff.

I’m sure they won’t though.

Well TK, the upcoming GM meetings will address the issue of suspensions.

Many GMs feel Parros has been too harsh.

Second significant reduction in a high-profile case by this arbitrator - league can’t be too keep to retain this guy.

So now even the supposedly neutral arbitrator helps undermine the league’s inconsistent effort at getting rid of headshots, while the NHLPA only represents the offending player.

Who/what protects the player - the vanishing enforcer and the relative success of their team’s power play?

I’m sure Wilson and his defenders are now even more likely to try and rationalize: see, it wasn’t the bad; I just was scapegoated. And when the league is so inconsistent it actually helps his case.
