Center Tim Connolly is waiting in anticipation that the secondary wave of free-agent action will sweep him toward another NHL job.
Connolly, most recently of the Toronto Maple Leafs/Marlies, remains an unsigned free agent at this late point in the off-season. His agent, J.P. Barry, said Connolly, 32, is not retiring and is focused on landing another NHL deal.
Barry said once NHL teams sort out their shopping in the early stages of free agency in July, they often come around and re-assess what they need heading into training camp. Barry said Connolly, a Baldwinsville native, hopes that process presents him with a few contract options.
"Right now, Tim wants to take some time and find the right situation for himself,'' Barry said Wednesday. "He's being patient. I think he's just taking a pause now. He's been through some injuries. He just wants his body to heal. I think there will be a demand for him when he decides to play. I think he understands most of the teams are going to look at younger players first.''
