The Day Tootoo’s Life Changed

from Josh Cooper of The Tennessean,

To Jordin Tootoo, there have been several days of importance and meaning.

His 28 birthdays. The day of his first NHL game. The day of his first NHL goal. The day his brother Terence committed suicide. All affected Tootoo, the NHL’s first Inuit player, in different ways.

All those moments came before Tootoo adopted the motto, “one day at a time.” Those moments mark the man that he was before the two most significant days in his new life, Dec. 18-19, 2010.

“The last time I drank was the 18th,” he said.

Almost one year ago today, Tootoo was in a different spot. He had a problem. He knew it. The Predators knew it. Those who cared for him knew it.

Recently read Probert’s book.  Glad to see a player kicking the drug addiction.

It’s incredibly hard for someone to confront an addiction and I think it’s wonderful that Tootoo’s succeeded at doing so.
