The Pittsburgh Penguins Trounced The Detroit Red Wings 11-2

03/27/2022 at 10:07pm EDT

from Matt Vensel of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette,

Sunday was just one of those nights where you had to be here to believe it. Their wild 11-2 win against the Red Wings was one of only five games all-time in which they scored 11-plus goals. They finished one shy of the franchise record.

“Obviously, it’s nice to score goals. It’s good for a lot of our guys. It’s good for their confidence,” coach Mike Sullivan said. “From our standpoint, there’s a lot of positives that we can build from it. We created some really good looks. Our power play was terrific. … Those types of games, they don’t happen very often.”

During their incredible offensive outburst, the Penguins chased Nedeljkovic with four on their first 12 shots, scored short-handed and three times on the power play and had already netted a half dozen goals at the game’s midway point.

Two longtime Penguins hit milestones as the team ran up the score. Rickard Rakell buried his first goal in black and gold. Nine players had multi-point nights.

Not a bad way to bounce back after their no-show in New York on Friday.

“Tonight was substantially more fun than the other night,” Bryan Rust said.
