The Night Before Christmas In Winnipeg

from Paul Friesen of the Winnipeg Sun,
‘Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the city
Not a Jets player skating, oh what a pity.
The pandemic’s fourth wave shut hockey down early
The virus relentless and spreading so quickly. One team, then another, so many affected
Postponements galore, with COVID detected.
Come back after Christmas, the message they’re sending
Is that enough time for a change in the trending?Long lineups aplenty if you need to get tested
The anger out there will get someone arrested.
The timing is bad, with Saint Nick arriving
Just ask the two Jets, Copp and Vesalainen. They’ll miss games next week, in quarantine waiting
Forced to stay home, with no celebrating.
One thing we’ve learned in this COVID hub-bub
It doesn’t play favourites or look at your pay stub. One man will miss this latest intrusion
He made it quite clear, without any illusion.
After 26 years, he’d had enough coaching
Paul Maurice will be home, indefinitely resting.
