The New York Islanders Are Down Six Players Due To COVID

from Sportsnet,

Veteran defenceman Zdeno Chara has become the seventh New York Islanders player to be added to the NHL's COVID-19 protocol list.

Islanders general manager Lou Lamoriello made the Chara announcement Tuesday.

Lamoriello said he had discussions with the NHL about the Islanders' schedule on Monday and said as of now, the team is getting ready to play on Wednesday against the New York Rangers.

"There is no decision to my knowledge. We’re preparing to play unless we hear otherwise," Lamoriello said.

Forwards Josh Bailey, Anders Lee, Kieffer Bellows and Ross Johnston, and defencemen Adam Pelech and Andy Greene are also in protocol.

The NHL postponed three Ottawa Senators game last week after they had 10 players on the list. Those were the first NHL games postponed because of COVID this season.

This is a real S**T sandwich for us fans.  I can sort of understand making them play vs. Calgary given the first game at new arena and the like -but with injuries to two key players (Brock Nelson and Ryan Pulock) and several players in protocol, They can most certainly give NYI a week to get through the protocol and get guys back.  2 of the next 3 games are vs. Les Ragitants.  Easy to make up.

Not one of the guys who is in protocol has had one negative test….so not eligible to be back until two negative tests are administered.

Postpone the games now, and let’s get the team healthy, and not expose other teams either to it.
