What an insane series.

What an implausibly back and forth
offensive slugfest.

I wonder if the blowout in the first game
put the series on a footing where Calgary was ultimately
at a disadvantage and they just couldn’t get it back and slow down Edmonton’s best
offensive players.

What’s up with Markstrom? Not that he let in a blizzard of bad goals but
on some of them he just sort of looked there - not really dialed in or aggressive.
Even with Edmonton’s skill there shouldn’t be so much to shoot at with such a big goalie.

I agree lefty. The first game opened the door for this series to be strictly offense. Few teams can compete with Edmonton there.

Of course, Markstrom didn’t steal them any games. I think we all knew he was going to get paid as a number 1 goalie but he’s not at that elite level. That could have made a difference.

I really thought this series was destined to go 7. This was a great one though.

Looked like a kick to me.

At first I thought no kick - he’s not
pulling his foot back or extending one foot
well out in front of the other.

It was more a controlled, active steering
and push into the net with his skate all the way.

You still have to draw a line there or more and more
guys are going to be using their skates to actively push pucks in.

Such a fun series.

Totally agree: I don’t see how Mike Smith clamps down
over a full series against goalies proven and able to do so.
He’s such an lol, shake your head kinda goalie.
The bad goals are so bad and they aren’t rare.
He’s still not sealing the ice with his pads either.
Against Kuemper? I guess I’d pick Kuemper between the two.
But he’s a little untested playoffs-wise. He was a name you’d sometimes hear:
what could he do on an actual good team? Guess we’ll find out if he can erase some of the chances Markstrom couldn’t.

MacKinnon vs. McDavid is going to be nuts.
But it’s cool to see Draisaitl: so determined, so lethal shooting or passing.
It’s also clear how important the Hyman signing was. Back when his teammates were still learning how to adjust to playoff hockey you’d see him against a much more physical Boston team, working like crazy. That’s a glue player.
