The Chicago Blackhawks Are Waiting On A Decision Regarding Marian Hossa

from Mark Lazerus of the Chicago Sun-Times,

The NHL has yet to rule if Marian Hossa is eligible for long-term injured reserve — and if the Blackhawks are eligible for the $5.275 million in salary-cap relief that comes with it. But an answer is expected soon.

‘‘Marian Hossa underwent an independent medical evaluation several days ago,’’ NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly wrote in an email to the Sun-Times. ‘‘We are waiting for the report. Once we have that, we should be in a position to determine his proper status.’’

Hossa announced in June that he will sit out the 2017-18 season because of a skin disorder and the side effects of the medication he had to take for it. The Hawks are expected to put Hossa on LTIR once the NHL season begins Oct. 4, possibly in time to use his cap space by their season opener Oct. 5.

If this has been on file with the league, then sure, I may buy it. The longer it has been on file, the better. But doing an independent medical review this late makes me wary that it isnt legitimate as Lazerus suggests.

But doesnt stuff like this slip out eventually throughout the course of a career? Ericsson’s hip was never actually a huge issue until we learned about it last year/year before?

If chicago really is making this up, they should have started leaking the news a lot sooner. Or even if they arent making this up.

I lean on the side of BS

What I don’t get is why the announcement came in June. Why not in August or September after he’d had time to try additional treatments, not wear equipment all summer, etc etc.

It seemed sketchy from the beginning but the NHL said, “nah it’s okay”. Then after lupols comments now they have to “look into” Hossa.
