from Wes Gilbertson of the Calgary Sun,
Just over a week ago, it seemed likely Darryl Sutter would never be behind an NHL bench again. Everyone assumed the two-time Stanley Cup champion was happily retired from a full-time role in the the hockey biz.
And yet there he was Thursday, back in a suit and tie — and mask, of course — as coach of the Calgary Flames.
Just over a week ago, Josh Leivo was probably feeling like he would never score again. The Flames right-winger had been either skunked or scratched in every outing so far this season.
And yet there he was Thursday, one dented goal-post away from the hat-trick.
They shared the Saddledome spotlight on this night, one doing the skipping and the other doing the sharpshooting as the Flames opened the Sutter 2.0 Era with a 2-1 victory over the Montreal Canadiens.
“This win is two-fold,” Sutter said afterward. “One is for the late Ken King, who we lost a year ago. And the other is for my mother (Grace), for her 85th birthday today. This win is for those two.”
