The Battle Of Alberta Continues On Saturday

01/20/2022 at 11:02am EST

The Edmonton Oilers host the Calgary Flames on Saturday night and if a team needs a win, it is the Oilers.

Rumors around Edmonton are plenty including fire the coach and make a trade for a top 4 defenseman and a goalie.

Not the easiest thing to do when your team is against the cap and the stars are slumping.

On to the battle between the two teams as explained here-

The Battle of Alberta is one of hockey’s great rivalries.

Ever since the Atlanta Flames moved 1,914 miles north to Calgary in 1980, Alberta has played host to some of the NHL’s fiercest games, most exciting moments, and one of its most famous dynasties.

Although the standard of hockey in Alberta has dipped since the Oilers and Flames won six of eight Stanley Cups between them in the 80s, the rivalry between the two teams remains intense.

n ongoing feud between Matthew Tkachuk and Zack Kassian, along with the shifted schedule for the 2020-21 campaign, which saw them face off 10 times within four months, has really reignited the hatred between the Flames - who are trending upwards in the NHL lines to win the 2022 Stanley Cup - and the Oilers.

The Oilers have lost their last seven games and are 2-11-2 since starting the season 16-5-2.

The Flames are also slumping, in their last 10 games they are 3-6-1 so both teams come in as desperate and hungry teams.

Lately these games have had much buildup but have disappointed the fans once the final horn goes off.

Saturday, I think it will be much different. The Calgary Flames will come into Edmonton with motivation to beat down the Oilers while they are down.

The Edmonton Oilers know they are at a breaking point and cannot afford another loss, they'll do anything to gain the two points.

Storylines to the game are-

Edmonton coach Dave Tippett is on the hottest seat in the NHL and needs a complete game from his team.

Calgary coach Darryl Suter wants his time to play the way he wants them to.

Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl need to bring their best and whoever is in goal for the Oilers must have a solid game.

For Calgary, Johnny Gaudreau is hot. Edmonton must keep and eye on him whenever he is on the ice.

My hunches are normally pretty good so I am advising all to settle in and watch the game which starts at 10pm ET on Saturday.

I know some of you may not even know the history between these two teams.

I have you covered.
