Ducks winger Matt Beleskey is out 2-4 weeks with an upper-body injury, and defenseman Sami Vatanen is out 4-6 weeks with a lower-body injury, the team announced today.
Both injuries were suffered in the first period of Sunday night's 5-3 defeat to the Washington Capitals at Honda Center.The 26-year-old Beleskey has a career-high 21 goals in 56 games with the Ducks this season, including an NHL-best eight game-winning goals.
The 23-year-old Vatanen has 12 goals and 22 assists in 57 games games this season. His 34 points lead all Ducks defensemen and rank him fourth on the team overall.

The Ducks were already looking at the blue-line market, but now, with a minute-eating defenseman like Vatanen (third on team at 21:40 minutes per game) and a scorer like Beleskey (21 goals) gone for a while, I’m guessing Ducks general manager Bob Murray will look more aggressively to add a piece both on the back end and up front. There's no official announcement yet about exactly how long Vatanen and Beleskey will be out, but it doesn’t sound good.
