That is a raw deal.  Nolan had absolutely nothing to work with.

via Bob McKenzie tweets,

I can’t say Mike Babcock will end up as coach in BUF but I will be shocked if Sabres don’t take a hard run at wooing Babcock away from DET.

BUF GM Tim Murray has history with Babcock dating back to days in ANA. Sabre owner Terry Pegula has lot of $ and not likely to be outbid.

Unreal.  Nolan will be employed soon enough.

I don’t know that any coach that isn’t just trying to get his foot in the door at the NHL level would want to go work for a disloyal GM like Tim Murray.

He did everything possible to kibosh the Sabres’ chances (even going so far as to trade their top goalies , who - while admittedly weren’t top-flight - had begun to string together a few modest winning-streaks under Arturs Irbe’s guidance) - Giving Nolan and staff literally nothing to work with; just raw AHL talent and a handful of fading veterans.

...Only to fire them? For what? Underachieving? Getting in the way of his embarrassingly transparent tank-job?

I know, many folks will say: “Well, it’s just business - It’s a business decision.”

Well, if I’m an NHL veteran-coach looking at my possible next move (heck, if I’m a veteran of any form of corporate endeavor or enterprise) my experience would direct me to steer clear of any “business” that treated my predecessor in such a manner.

Besides, Tim Murray doesn’t want just ANY best (world-class, gold medal-winning, Stanley Cup-champion) coach for the job (not by prevailing standards, anyhow) - He’s wants his best bum-buddy Luke Richardson (from Binghamton) to steer the McNew McSabres into the McFuture…

And that’s a lame enough reason for his entire philosophy and course of action to result in continued failure, for a Sabres’ organization that has inexorably hemorrhaged leadership, class and loyalty and Hockey-savvy personnel, since the Knox Brothers passed away.

“For what? Underachieving?”

No. Absurd you even think that. Not sure why you are so upset about this, perhaps jealousy? It sounds that way.

It was clear that Nolan and Murray didn’t see eye to eye all season. There were a few interviews with Nolan were he basically called out Murray for not bring up the guy he wanted brought up which seemed… awkward at best. I’m sure his dismissal had more to do with personality than performance. It isn’t like Nolan was hired by Murray and usually a new GM comes in and brings in his own coaching staff. So you think Murray didn’t deserve that opportunity? Because that is what is happening now. I think Nolan knew this long ago.

Furthermore… Irbe still has a year on his contract and hasn’t been let go. So the one coach you call out as doing an excellent job, he didn’t get let go. The one coach who almost gave the Sabres 29th instead of 30th… Obviously who knows what will happen when a new coach is brought it, I’m sure Tim would let said coach pick his own staff but obviously he will recommend at least talking to Irbe.

Also, your homophobic remarks about both him and Luke Richardson really have no place here.
