Team Canada Run Continues In International Play

from Pierre LeBrun of ESPN,

Greatest hockey team ever?

Let the argument begin.

With apologies to the great Soviet national teams of yesteryear that were simply outstanding but didn't get to regularly test themselves against NHL players, Team Canada circa 2014-16 might go down as the most dominating squad to ever hit the ice in the modern era.

A perfect 12-0-0 between the 2014 Sochi Olympics and the World Cup of Hockey -- with Thursday night's thrilling 2-1 victory over Europe at Air Canada Centre as the finishing touch -- is a stretch of hockey we won't soon forget.

"It's pretty special," said World Cup MVP Sidney Crosby. "It's not easy to do, and for a good chunk of us, a lot of us were together there in Russia.

"Everyone understands playing for Team Canada, you're willing to do anything to win."

Canada has always produced great players, and always will.  The secret to their domination, however, is coaching…Thorough preparation, a “defense first, play both ways” scheme, and most importantly, a total “buy in” from Sid Crosby and each player to do whatever it takes for the team to win.  This is what Mike Babcock contributes to the team.  The team will not lose as long as he is coach.

I’m sorry, but Peewee Herman could have coached that team to victory.  Lets be real.

Not necessarily.

If you look at the US team, although not the roster I would have chosen, if the Canadian coaching staff was behind the bench, they would have gone further in the tournament in my opinion. Furthermore, team Europe’s coach also did a hell of a job not to mention the Russian coach…..unable to adapt and showcasing Russian players before NHL players….that did not help

The coach is not the entity that will make the team win, but a good one definitely makes a difference

If nothing else Ralph Krueger should be on the short list when an NHL team is looking for a new head coach. He did a spectacular job with Team Europe. He deserves another shot.

Maybe Peewee Herman couldn’t handle the task but even Barry Melrose could have won it for Canada.

Sorry to my American friends but the Canadian team team Version 2016 is the best version and team ever.  The core, that have grown up together from Midget all the way till today have won everything and I’m guessing until 2020 should win.  The group of guys including the coaches that form the mgt. as well are allstars.  Lot of coaching brains in Babcock, Queenville, etc, great leadership.  Even Steve Y has been involved.

Future, we look at Team North America and the Canadian core coming along but the American core is just as strong and if the get the correct organization coaches should be right there.

It’s hard to argue that they aren’t the best. However, those Soviet teams from the 70s were pretty amazing to watch. The only thing I’ve seen close to it were the Montreal Canadiens of the mid 70s and Russian 5 in Detroit.
