Tampa’s Malone Next Up For Review

From Pat Hickey at Postmedia via the Montreal Gazette:

Tampa’s Ryan Malone leveled Chris Campoli with a shoulder to the head midway through the third period. He was assessed a major penalty and a game misconduct…

From Greg Wyshinski at Yahoo! Sports Puck Daddy:

Campoli’s leaning a bit on the play, but hardly leaned into the hit. It’s the kind of check that was legal for the first seven seasons of Malone’s career; not so much anymore.

Does anyone know his repeat offender status?
From years of watching him play, I would imagine he’s been suspended before.

This is exactly the type of hit trying to be gotten rid of and Malone apparently doesn’t care.

@tedlar, From what I have read, Malone is not considered a cheapshot artist or a head hunter. But it is amazing to me after all the suspensions that any player would throw that hit.

Malone’s not particularly dirty; he just plays a high contact game in high traffic areas. For every crosscheck (or whatever) he gives out, he takes two, due to the nature of where he plays.

This is as easy a suspension as the sestito hit, though. It’s more or less exactly what the league does not want in those videos from before the preseason. Heck, this is probably a suspension under Campbell. Definitely a suspension under Shanahan.

Wisniewski aside, sort of surprised that the Cookes, Armstrongs, Richards, Kaletas and Downies have yet to do anything that got them into hot water yet.

It looks like he gets mostly shoulder. I don’t think he targets the head, may not have actually impacted it and the player was face on him. I don’t think there will be a suspension.
