from Harvey Fialkov os the Sun Sentinel,
“I think it was kind of obvious it was going to happen when [coach Kevin Dineen] was let go. I was happy to be moved and happy for the new opportunity,'' Matthias said. "It’s a different atmosphere [in Vancouver], a different culture. You play hard and you play. In Florida, too many guys were given things and it’s not the right way. Here, it’s you earn your ice time.’’...
“I think it was obvious when guys were out, and how well I played,’’ Matthias said. “And when they came back, nothing really changed, it seemed like it never happened. I was upset for awhile here and wanted a fair shake and now I’m in a really good situation.’’
Matthias said he was, “ecstatic,’’ to be traded and hopes to score a couple of goals Sunday.
“That’s what I’m absolutely planning on doing,’’ Matthias smiled.

I agree with both. Matthias had a great year last year and then got stuck on the third line, however rookies Aleksander Barkov and Nick Bjugstad are better centers and it is a numbers game. Matthias is a good player and I always liked him but Barkov and Bjugstad are going to be stars in this league…Markstrom was right also both the team and him played bad. Two years ago I would not have liked the Luongo trade, Panthers had Theo and Clemmenson playing great in the playoffs and Markstrom as the goalie of the future but things changed and Markstrom never developed into what we were told he would be. He may yet but he sure didn’t look ready for prime time earlier in the year. Tim Thomas played great but he was a temporary fix. Matthias is a good player but with additions of all the good young centermen including Brandon Pirri he became expendable. Good luck to both Matthias & Markstrom, just not this afternoon.
