Retirement At The End Of The Season Is On Dan Boyle’s Mind

from Andrew Gross of The Record,

In all likelihood, Dan Boyle is playing his final season in the NHL.

The veteran defenseman told The Record following Wednesday’s practice at Greenburgh, N.Y., that while "nothing is for sure," he is leaning toward retirement and not seeking another contract once his two-year, $9 million deal with the Rangers expires.

The 39-year-old said being away from his two young daughters gets tougher "more and more every year."

"You miss a lot of things," said Boyle, whose daughters, Eastin and Wesley, are 7 and 5. "At a certain point, you don’t want to miss it any more."

It still blows my mind that the Wings let Stralman walk to TB, but offered this guy 2 years. Or Niskanen all that money and term.

Maybe I am thinking of Gilbert, but either he or Stralman came back to the wings with their offer from another team, and the Wings said, “nah, its cool.”

Gilbert is the one they let walk, Stralman is the one who had no interest in the Wings at all.
